Today’s Goal: Use the lesson plan format effectively

Warm-up Activity: (how will you “engage” the students?)
Allow students to write on a 3x5 card…
(List-Group-Label): What is Creativity? What are characteristics of those we think of as creative? In groups write adjectives or
words that express our view of creativity. From that, come up with an idea of what creativity is. At the close of the lesson we
will come back to this.
Lesson: (Sequence of activities.. Explore, Engage, Elaborate. Color code differentiation, technology,
assessment. Include times for each part of the lesson. Balance your class with information, discussion,
hands-on, independent practice, and include some type of closure to your lesson. Consider breaking up
your classroom into 15 minute segments.)
Explore: Students will use color strips to layout a 5-day lesson plan. Each color represents a type of activity. After looking at
the strips, go through the powerpoint that describes each of the 5 e’s as well as resources teachers should consider when writing
lesson plans.
Explain: Using the MI and Bloom and Marzano toolkit, write an essential question and an objective for one of the Comprehension
Skills that you will eventually teach. Share this with your table partners. (If time permits, display these in the room).
Elaborate: After viewing the resources, together, write a complete lesson plan that uses multiple resources
Evaluate: Using the 5e template and/or colored markers, identify the different types of activities that have been used (engage,
explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate; In addition, students will be asked to complete an (Exit Slip)
Homework Assigned/Evaluate:
Students will work in teams to create their own lesson plans regarding comprehension skills and the piece they are
reading/sharing. This activity will take 20 minutes and must include each of the 5e’s. Assessment will be on a 5 point scale (1
point for each “e”)
