PVRA Members Compete at Arabian Nationals

PVRA members Brittany Banning and Jenn Halverson

competed at the 12th annual Youth National Arabian and

Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show held from July

25–31, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Youth Na-

tionals show offers 114 classes with more than 1,000 Arabi-

an, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses competing with

individual class entries totaling over 2,800. Youths prepare

for this show all year long and must qualify to compete by

earning championships and first place ribbons at designated

Arabian “A” shows.

Jenn Halverson’s equine partner was her Half-Arabian

horse, “The Party’s Over”. They competed in Halter Show-

manship and Country English Pleasure. Brittany Banning

won three national Top Ten Titles in: English Show Hack,

13 & Under, Ladies English Side Saddle, 17 & Under, and

Mounted Native Arabian Costume, 13 & Under. Brittany’s

equine partners for these accomplishments were “K Akasha Brittany & Darcy with award plaques

Jabask,” and “Crapshoot,” respectively.

This dream would not have come true for Brittany and

Jenn without the guidance and instruction of trainer Darcy

Edwards. Over the past year, Darcy has introduced many

youths from the Poway area to the competition of Arabian

“A” level and Regional level Breed Shows. In one year Dar-

cy brought Brittany and Jenn to the National level! Thanks

Darcy for a brilliant job well done. Congratulations, Jenn,

Brittany, Darcy, “Party”, “Akasha”, “Shooter”, and “Gus”,

we are so proud of you all!

ing a plan for the Kent property behind PVRA

contact her.

New Business

ested in having input into Cuyamaca Park’s re-

building is forming in September, meeting in

El Cajon. If anyone is interested in joining the

he has to stitch up several layers of muscle before finally

stapling the skin. 8-Sep 2:30 R1, R2, WU, XC D, T

Once the horse is closed up, they put the hobbles back on 15-Sep 3:45 R1, R2, D, WU T, XC

and winch him back up and then lay him on his side on a

padded recovery room. They use a padded room to make R1 = Ring 1, R2 = Ring 2, WU = Warm-up

injure himself because it is common to fall several times be-

fore he is finally on his feet.

The horse will likely remain in the hospital 5-6 days and

will require 60 to 90 days of stall rest with hand walking

only before going slowly back to work. Frequent complica-

tions include adhesions, hernias, or kinks that may require a

second surgery to resolve.
