ONE SENTENCE DESCRIPTION: The Public Art Advisory Board would like to sponsor two art
projects which incorporate the theme of each event in an effort to
bring temporary public art to the City’s attention.
ELIGIBILITY: Any individual, organization, school, class, or artist.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION BUDGET AND SCHEDULE:
Summer Nights on the Avenue Events Description
This is the 13th Annual Summer Nights on the Avenue Celebration in downtown Delray Beach. The
celebration includes individual block parties throughout the Atlantic Avenue area, this year with each
week’s party promoting a unique theme and corresponding Artists’ involvement. The festivities will
involve Friday nights, each in a different location. Activities will also include live music provided for
each party, open houses for the merchants, food available from participating restaurants, free give-
aways from the sponsors and artists demonstrating different mediums supporting each weeks theme!.
Summer Nights on the Avenue Project Description
Specific Friday Nights throughout the Summer, events will be held from 7-10 pm. Each Event will have
a theme. The project should relate to the theme or public space. It should be of a temporary nature.
Participation of the public is not required but is recommended. The project must be installed in a
reasonable amount of time (i.e. 1-2 hours).

August 28th-Dancing in the Street-Atlantic Ave between NE/SE 5th Ave and NE/SE 6th Ave
September 4th-Last Hurrah of Summer-A1A in front of Boston’s on the Beach and Caffe Luna Rosa

Submission Details
Submissions must be a 4” x 8” color sketch of the proposed design. More than 1 submission per
applicant is acceptable.
The sketch must incorporate one or more of the following:
1. Theme
Each event will have a specific theme in which the project should be involved.
2. Public Space
There should be a good use of public space. Please pay attention to the various areas and all
their eccentricities.
3. Public Participation
The project should engage the public either by movement or contribution.
4. The Arts
The Arts play an important role in downtown events, because of their capacity to transform, to
inspire, to enrich and to engage. The Arts transcend boundaries of race, gender, age and social
status. Summer Nights on the Avenue provides a platform for musicians, poets, storytellers,
dancers, actors, visual and media artists to showcase the city’s cultural landscape—creative,
authentic, intimate.
Important Dates and Deadlines
Proposed Design Received: August 14, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Design Selections: August 17, 2009
Project installed and completed by the specific event date.
Selection Criteria
The Public Art Advisory Board Selection Committee shall consider the following issues:
1. Appropriateness of the artwork to one or more of the Requirements listed above;
2. Appropriateness of the artwork to the size and dimensions of the public space;
3. Quality of the artwork
