The importance of a website in online branding The Internet has quickly become the primary avenue by which customers access and evaluate products and services. Because of this sudden increase in the popularity of the Internet, organisations large and small must not neglect the online aspect of their branding and must think very carefully how their brands look and communicate on the Web. You need to be very clear on your reasons for being online. There are two major reasons why you may want to be online and they are very different and understanding them is essential if your online branding efforts are going to be fruitful. 1. You want to use the Web as a sales channel – To generate sales from your website you need your branding to be very strong. The customer has to get your full message and promises. They will be interacting with your brand and making decisions about your products or services without a real live person being there to explain everything to them. 2. You want to use the Web to provide information or customer service – The message your present and future customers get from your online branding efforts should be consistent with that of your offline efforts. Your message should be one, regardless of how customers come into contact with it.

The quickest way to get your online branding started is with a website. If you’re not 100% convinced of the need for a website then make a list of the top brands you know and you will find they all have excellent websites as part of their branding. Different website types you can have are: Business Card Site: - These are quick and easy to set up and maintain. They are basically an online business card with the essential info about your business and the products or services you provide. Brochure Site: - This is essentially your printed brochure formatted for the web. It is a little more involved than the business card and it allows you to go into more details about your products and services. Support Site: - These types of sites are excellent for providing a service to your existing customers in the way of information about product usage, installation, troubleshooting, updates, and news. E-commerce sites: The most expensive and most difficult to maintain. Ecommerce sites allow you to sell your products.
