Minutes of the Council of the Art Directors Guild Meeting
September 17 2008
Present: Members: Tom Walsh, Cate Bangs, Michael Baugh, Dahl Delu,

I. Opening
A. The meeting was called to order by President Tom Walsh
at 8:35 pm.
B. The August 20 2008 ADG Council minutes were
distributed and read. M/S/P (D. Delu/D. Stiles) to
approve the minutes.
II. Executive Director’s Report
A. New Members: M/S/P (D.Delu/M. Gramatky) to
approve (as set forth on attached list).
B. Production Design Credit Waivers: “Valkyrie” may be an
issue. All others to be approved (as set forth on attached
list). M/S/P (Stiles/Baugh)
C. Organizer/Field Rep. Position: Mr. Roth reported that a
decision will be made soon for a new Organizer/Field
Representative position.
III. Associate Executive Director’s Report:
A. CSATTF: John Moffitt reported that CSATTF has given an
additional $100,000 to continue training for the
remainder of the year.

B. US CAD: Mr. Moffitt reported that US CAD still has half
their budget left which should last the remainder of the
year. The budget deadline for next year is October 29.
C. Digital Classroom: Mr. Moffitt discussed a preliminary
proposal for the cost of the Digital Classroom, which will
be presented at the next meeting.
IV. Officers’ Reports
A. President’s Report:
a. “News You Can Use”: President Tom Walsh said that
the “News You Can Use” newsletter will be going out
every Friday. Deadline for submissions is 5:00p.m.,
every Thursday.
b. Town Hall: There will be a standing Town Hall
meeting the first Wednesday of every month,
beginning October 1st.
c. Council Vacancies: President Walsh said those who
have agreed to run for seats on the ADG Council again
are D. Stiles, C. Bangs, J. Shaffner, M. Baugh, M.
Gramatky, and T. Walsh. D. Delu announced that he
will be having back surgery and will be unavailable
November and December. Further, based on
proposed changes to our Constitution which would
eliminate one Trustee position, he expected he’d no
longer be a Trustee as of January 1, 2009.
B. Treasurer’s Report: M. Baugh reported that the budget, for
the most part, is right on track; initiation fees, dues, and
investment income bear watching. “Perspective” costs
continue to be a problem.
C. Trustees: Next Trustees meeting is scheduled for October 7,
2008.
V. New Business: There was no new business.

VI. Old Business
A. 5D: R. Markovitz reported that they have a great line-up
and firm supporters, the panels are locked in and, to date,
there are more than 260 paid registered attendees and the
budget looks good. There was a motion to print 500
additional copies of “Perspective” and to hand them out to
participants. M/S/P (C. Bangs/M. Gramatky).
VII. Committee Reports
A. Awards: M. Baugh discussed the Awards Committee’s
desire to try on-line voting. He reported that the cost
was estimated at about $8.000 for the services of “Vote
Net.” Concerns were discussed regarding the possible
confusion for voters about a computer program vs. a
paper ballot. M/S/P by 10 to 2 to try the on-line voting
system this year.
B. Public Relations: R. Markovitz reported that Art Unites
had over 800 guests on opening night and was a great
success. He presented the ads that were published in the
“Tolucan” and the “LA Weekly” advertising the event.
C. Awards: R. Markovitz reported that George Lucas has
agreed to receive the Cinematic Imagery Award at the Art
Directors Guild 13th Annual Excellence in Production
Design Awards. He also reported that the press release
for the Magnificent 100 clip reel will be ready next week.
In addition, there was discussion about the possibility of
Architectural Digest hosting the Oscar party here at the
Guild.
D. Web Site: Tom Walsh reported that we are adding clips
to the website for the voters to screen to help encourage
participation in on-line voting.
E. Film Society: Tom Walsh reported that the screening of
“Tom Sawyer” will be September 21 2008 at 5:30pm and
Brooke Wheeler will be there to talk about her dad.
