some useful contacts

Deciding who you need to talk to - to get your market entry strategy right - can be a challenge.

Fortunately there are people who can help you and many of them are just a phone call away.

1 International Trade Adviser (ITA) - to contact your own local export advisor, visit the UKTI website

www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk and select 'Find your local trade team' on the home page or contact

UKTI on 0207 215 8000. It is well worth registering on this website.

2 Mission leaders - take groups of business people to Turkey. Visit the UKTI website and select

'events' within the country pages to identify missions. Your trade association may also run missions.

An informal chat with someone who has just lead a mission abroad can be a worthwhile conversation.

3 International Chambers - talking with someone from the local or bilateral chambers of commerce in a

country can indicate key people and companies within the industry. A good starting point is the British

Chamber of Commerce of Turkey(www.bcct.org.tr/en/).

4 Sector specialists - UKTI employ industry specialists who can advise you on exports. Contact your

local trade team to find the sector expert in your region. (Also see sector pages on UKTI website)

5 Commercial officers - in consulates - ideally placed to advise on local market potential and also

arrange meetings with key people (the 'OMIS' service). Contact your ITA to find out more. Visit

www.britishembassy.org.tr to locate consulates.

6 Market research publishers - behind every research report there is an author who may be

surprisingly easy to talk to. Locate the report of interest using www.marketresearch.com this identifies

the publisher. Then call and ask who wrote the report and ask to be put through as a prospective

purchaser. Note :The EMRS scheme can help towards one third of the cost of a published report.

7 Trade associations - often have dedicated export staff who assist members with exporting. Some

will also publish reports on markets around the world; often available at little cost. Trade associations

can be located using www.taforum.org.uk .

8 Trade Journal Editors - in between publication deadlines, editorial staff can be surprisingly talkative

about their industry. To locate the most relevant journal ask the UK editor who his Turkish

counterparts are. Or, use www.publist.com .

9 Exhibition organisers - a recent show catalogue can be a goldmine of commercial information about

who is selling what to whom. Often available free from the show organiser. To identify relevant shows

use www.tsnn.com

10 Suppliers, market you have in mind. If not in touchyou alreadyinformally you may see themofatselling into

the export

customers & competitors -someone

export

clubs organised by your local business group or export club

Turkey is an unusual emrs research destination and SME companies are advised to do their

research carefully. Case studies on British companies using the scheme are available from the

Export Marketing Research Scheme on 024 7669 4484.
