Hospice of Spokane is again conducting Camp Chmepa Children’s Grief Camp this summer. This is a
fun three-day camping experience at Lutherhaven on Lake Coeur d’Alene, for children who have
experienced the death of someone close. Camp Chmepa has all the activities of camp (hiking,
swimming, cabins) combined with therapeutic activities to help bereaved children with the grief
process. Call 465-0438 or go to http://www.hospiceofspokane.org/camp_chmepa.html
Call Mrs. Pfiffner 465-6768 for assistance or email beth.pfiffner@mead354.org

The name of the camp, Chmepa (juh-MEH-peh) is a Spokane Indian word with multiple meanings: a
place where two rivers come together to meet; blend and become stronger; a special place of
       inclusion; and a connecting circle.

                                            Library News

The end of the year is quickly approaching and the Midway Library needs your
assistance. Please keep an eye open for any books that may be hanging around the
house and remind your child to return checked-out materials as soon as possible.
Overdue notices will be sent home to inform you of the name of titles needed for return
or reimbursement. Report cards will be held if books are not brought back or payment
made. THANK YOU for your help!!!

One World, Many Stories @ Your Library this Summer
Make sure to visit your local public library this summer! In addition to the loads of books we
have for you to read, we also have activities going on all summer long. There will be dancing
and music, and lots of chances to learn about knights, live birds, tessellations, Kamishibai,
Salish stories and more! The reading program is a little different this year than it has been in
past years. You donʼt need to sign up and you can start reading at anytime. If youʼd like to
keep track of how much you read over the summer, there will be a reading log on the
Spokane County Library website that you can download and print. For more information,
check out our website at www.scld.org.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SCHOOL NURSE

  Parents of 5th graders:

As of July 1, 2007, children attending 6th grade are required to show proof of Tdap vaccination if it has been
five years since receiving a DTaP or Td vaccine. Therefore, if the last shots your child received were
before school entry, your child will need to receive this shot before the first day of 6th grade. In addition,
state law now requires all students to have a Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine, have had the disease, or
show evidence of immunity through serological testing before entering 6th grade.

In order to facilitate a smooth transition for school enrollment next year we are asking that your child get
these shots during this school year, if possible, after your child turns 11. Please consider having this
done as soon as possible. Once done, please provide the school with the date of the Dtap or Td vaccine
  and varicella vaccines.

Your child may receive these shots from your family health care provider. Or you can get the shots at the
Spokane Regional Health District that provides immunizations on a sliding fee schedule based on your
income. You can call 324-600 to schedule an appointment or come to one of the district sponsored free
  immunization clinics.

Thank you for attending to this quickly. If questions please call Patti Buck at 688-9128.

                                          THANK YOU!
Midway would like to thank Kelley Ferguson and Numerica Credit Union for the donation of

two business partners for providing updated technology for our kids!
