From a 16th-century bark house to the hewn log cabin of 1850, students learn
about the important natural resources and technologies as they travel through an
illustrated history of the Catawba Indians.
Gemstone Mining & Rock and Minerals Presentation
NCSCS Science Goals 2.01 – 2.07.
Learn about the formation of rocks and minerals, their uses and how they change
through the rock cycle. Follow-up the program with a visit to the gemstone mine
to collect garnets, emeralds and quartz crystals.
Life in the Carolina Backcountry
NCSCS Social Studies Goals 2.01 – 2.04, 3.01 – 3.05.
A costumed interpreter illustrates how determined pioneers carved a life from the
North Carolina wilderness using only what they could carry in a wagon and the
natural resources on hand in the late 1700s. Program held at the 18th century
Backcountry Farm.
