Specialty Responsibility Guidelines
Meteorologist Duties:
1. Describe the Climate and Weather of your selected location. Include temperatures & rainfall.
2. Create or find graphs to show as part of your presentation. (You may use the computer - save
information on a flash drive)
3. How would the climate and weather of your location help or hurt your contestants?
4. What weather factors need to be considered in creating your pilot? Are there limits to what a human
can endure?
5. What possible effects could the weather have on the contestant’s health?
6. Work closely with the Survivalist and Extreme Athlete in order to clarify how the weather will affect the
contestants’ clothing and shelter needs and physical limitations.

Travel Agent’s Duties:
1. Locate 4 famous landmarks /monuments (2 of each) near your location that people may want to visit
or see on a vacation. Remember: your TV reality show could become an advertisement for this
location’s tourism industry.
2. Find or create visual images of these 4 landmarks to show as part of your presentation. Be prepared
to show as part of your presentation.
3. If human-made, describe their importance and any historical significance. Who made them? Why?
4. If a geographic wonder, describe its power and if it has been changed by humans. Why or why not?
5. How could these monuments or landmarks be included in your challenge in some way? How?
6. Work closely with the GPS Programmer.

GPS Programmer Duties:
1. Create a Google-Earth presentation.
a. Work closely with the Travel Agent. What landmarks did he/she identify? Include those in
your Google Earth Presentation.
b. What major airports, highways, cities, or waterways are near your location?
c. Use views that will help your audience understand the elevation and other geographic
features in your location.
d. Use the navigation tools to show a 3-D view of the location.
e. Create a tour so that we can truly see where this is in relation to the United States and other
parts of the world and see possible tourism landmarks/monuments.
2. Prepare a descriptive narrative that will go along with your Google Earth Tour. Be Persuasive: that
this is the place people will want to visit!

Survivalist Duties:
1. Describe conditions that would be hard for a contestant to endure at your location.
2. Research the resources available in your location.
o Which resources could your contestant actually use?
o Which resources would not be useful or available to your contestant?
3. What could your contestant realistically find to eat in your region?
4. What tools would your survivalist need to catch, gather, cook food?
5. What would be the water source?
6. What clothing would be needed?
7. What shelter would your contestant need to create?
8. What else could your contestant use in the environment to help him/her survive?
9. Work Closely with the Meteorologist and Extreme Athlete.

Extreme Athlete Duties:
1. Research super athletes who have met challenges like the one your group has created.
a. Who were they?
b. What helped these athletes survive and/or fulfill the challenge?
c. Find photos of athletes who have accomplished a task like yours.
2. What physical ability would your contestant need to have? For example – resting heart rate,
strength, flexibility, endurance, speed.
3. What training/preparation would be needed in order to compete in this location successfully?
a. How would the contestants be selected?
b. What criteria would you have in order to be considered as a contestant?
4. What equipment would be needed in order to meet the challenge you have created?
5. Would your athlete need to be able to do something that requires courage? If so, what?
6. What mental strength would be needed?
7. Will age matter?
8. Work closely with the Survivalist.

Cinematographer Duties:
1. Create or find landscape photographs or video of your location to show as part of your presentation.
(You may use the computer for the presentation)
2. Where would your cinematographer take pictures/shoot the video?
3. How would these photos/video be taken during the contest? (Example: aerial photographs?)
4. Find music that would be excellent accompaniment to your video footage &/or presentation.
a. What is the name of the song?
b. Who is the artist/group?
c. Why did you choose this music?
d. Is it from the region’s culture?
e. What emotion are you trying to create in the viewer?
