Tuition Reimbursement for Spouses, Dependents,
Couples in a Civil Union and Domestic Partners

Employees All full-time employees of the Richard Stockton College of New
Covered Jersey are covered by this policy. Spouses, legally joined partners in a
civil union, legally joined domestic partners, and dependents as defined
in New Jersey Statutes are eligible. However, a student eligible for
reimbursement under this program shall be matriculated full-time
student enrolled in an undergraduate program of instruction at the
College. Part-time students are not eligible for tuition reimbursement
under the program.
Policy
1.1 Subject to limits to the program set forth below, reimbursement shall be
no more than 50% of the tuition charged to and actually paid by or on
behalf of the student, upon written proof to the Bursar that the
semester’s academic program has been satisfactorily completed.
1.2 The Office of Human Resources will verify the dependency of the
employee and the Bursar shall verify the information provided by the
student. Upon verification the Bursar shall direct the student be
credited for the following semester or issued a reimbursement check for
tuition.
1.3 All requests should be sent to Office of Human Resources immediately
following the end of the semester.
Eligibility
2.1 A student’s eligibility for tuition reimbursement is limited to five years
from the time he or she becomes a full-time undergraduate student at
the College.
2.2 No student who is a dependent will be eligible for tuition
reimbursement if they have attained the age of twenty-five years at the
time of the beginning of semester for which he or she seeks
reimbursement.
2.3 Tuition reimbursement will be paid for only those persons who have
received passing grades for enrolled courses.
2.4 A dependent, spouse, person in a civil union or domestic partner shall
not be eligible for tuition waiver during the summer session.
Limitations
3.1 The overall amount allocated to this Program shall be $100,000 each
year.
3.2 In the event the total amount of requested tuition reimbursement under
this Program exceeds the overall limitation amount in any year, the
total amount reimbursement shall be less than 50%
3.3 Reimbursement for tuition for courses taken prior to the Fall Semester,
2004 shall not be made.
3.4 All students eligible for participation in this Program must meet all
academic requirements established by the College for initial admission
and continuation at the College. Further, a student shall be required to
be in good standing at the College.
3.5 The student shall apply for any and all appropriate financial aid through
scholarship and/or grant before requesting tuition reimbursement under
this Program. If the student receives financial assistance, he or she will
be eligible for up 50% of the remaining balance of tuition charged and
paid by him or her, or paid on his or her behalf. Student loans, if any,
shall not be considered an offset against tuition for the purpose of this
program.
Death of Employee
4.1 In the event of the death of an employee who has a spouse, domestic
partner or dependent enrolled at the College, at the time of his or her
death, that student so enrolled shall continue in the tuition
reimbursement program as if the person had not died.
Note regarding Section 3.5: The College has adopted a procedure providing for an
exception to the policy for students who were awarded Presidential Scholarships with
an initial effective date prior to the fall semester of 2008. In such cases, the specified
amount of the Presidential scholarship only may be applied first to fees and to room
bills instead of to tuition first as required by Section 3.5. In such cases, the total
reimbursement shall be limited to the lesser of; 1) one-half of the actual payment by the
student or on behalf of the student ( including payments made from loan funds but not
including payments from other scholarships) toward tuition, fees and room and, 2) one-
half of the charge for tuition. This exception shall be retroactive to and shall apply to
payments made for the fall semester of 2007.
