EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Answering Your Questions First
This year we wanted to take a different approach to our package. We consulted past sponsors first, listened to their questions, and tried to find out exactly what they wanted to know from us. Below are the questions most commonly encountered.
oUR MISSIoN
To help our student members develop academically, socially and profesionally so that they can empower themselves to face any challenge in the workplace.
Q: How old is the organization? The MIS Association started operating in 1988 and has not stopped improving since. Q: Who is your main audience? All students in the faculty of management, IS/IT course professors, and our other partners and sponsors. In other words, the future users of your products, future employees and possible future clients. Q: Where will we have the opportunity to connect to this audience through brand recognition and general visibility? Your company’s branding material could appear on our web site, at every professional and academic event we organize, in our office, on faculty screens and in the kits we distribute to members through the year. Also meet the audience in person at our events.
Q: How can we ensure that our investment is well-spent? A budget forecast for the current year is presented in this package. At the end of every two semesters, the MISA commits to producing a detailed report with the year’s activities, events and achievements. Q: What if we decide not to participate? What are we losing out on? You would miss out on a wealth of competitive advantage obtained by: having the ability to connect with top students, obtaining the exposure that could be gained at our high-profile events and having the chance to give back to the community. Q: Monetary support is key but are there other ways to support your association? People: judges for case competitions, a speaker for the MISA Wine & Cheese and carreer contacts. Also appreciated are: branding material items, student job opportunity postings and MIS case studies.
oUR VISIoN
To respond to the needs of our members and our sponsors by organizing activities that connect and enrich to both groups.
oUR VAlUES
Integrity in all activities Commitment to members Cultural diversity
YEARlY EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
Year after year, the Association uses the events and activities below to achieve its mission and improve students in three facets.

New Initiatives For The Coming Year
Below are four exciting activities the Association is putting together to connect you to our members.
MIS WINE & CHEESE Annual formal event for students to connect with the Ottawa business community and listen to an influential IS/IT professional speaker. Funds are raised for a chosen charity. TBTC
THE MIS CASE CoMPETITIoN We are pleased to host our third annual business case competition in January of 2010. With a unique spin on the traditional concept, contestants will challenge their analytical and communication skills. Two challenging cases will be provided to be solved in teams of three within 48 hours. Afterwards, a final case will be distributed to be solved individually by the members of the best team. High-quality answers are to be expected to redeem the grand prize as well as the prestigious title. Time is running out to get involved! This is a fantastic opportunity to have top university students solve your very own business challenges. PRoMoTIoN of THE MIS PRogRAM We are going to increase our focus on the promotion of Telfer’s MIS program. This will involve the creation of two scholarships exclusively for students entering the MIS program and raising awareness of the program at local highschools in the Ottawa area. As the club representing the MIS program, MISA will focus on promoting the benefits of MIS to current and
prospective students of the Telfer School of Management. TBTC 2010 CoNfERENCE The third annual Telfer Business & Technology Conference is set for January 2010. Comprised of a series of seminars, a case competition, and a dinner, the TBTC 2010 Conference is a great way for students, sponsors, aand technology experts to network. The seminars address current technology threads that are facing students and the industry, while the case competition is judged by a panel of experts. The evening is wrapped up with a formal dinner, which is presided over by a leader in the technology industry. CoURSE EXAM AND Book BANk Due to demand for academic support in MIS courses, our Association has put together a collection of old final/midterm examinations, review sheets, course books and course guides. All material is stored securely in our office. This ensures that, especially during exam time, our office is granted high student traffic and therefore student exposure to any sponsor branding material in it.
The Telfer Business and Technology Conference includes workshops, a case competition, networking, amd formal dinner. An opportunity for students and professionals to connnect.
CSI TUToRIAlS An activity that helps firstyear students from all majors understand business ínformation technology material. MoNTREAl TRIP A social event that allows club executives to directly interact with all members and seek out future leaders from the ranks. IT CoNfERENCE TRIPS The two yearly trips to Toronto ensure that our members are informed about the latest trends in the IS/IT industry.
