MAKE UP WORK
Make-up work is to be completed within the time specified by the teacher. The time is not to exceed ten ( 10) days. If
the work is not completed within the allotted time, the student receives a zero for the work not made-up. The ten day
rule does not apply to long standing assignments such as term papers, research papers, long rangeprojects, etc. In these
cases , it is generally expected that the student will turn in the long standing assignment, project, etc. on his/her first
day back in school. However, if the teacher has specified that late long standing assignments, projects, etc. will
not be accepted ( if the student is absent on the date the long standing assignment, project, etc. is due), the long
standing assignment, project, etc. must be turned in on time, absent or not.
IF AN INDIVIDUAL TEACHER OR A DEPARTMENT REQUIRES LONG STANDING ASSIGNMENTS,
PROJECTS, ETC. TO BE TURNED IN ON THE DAY THAT THEY ARE DUE WHEN A STUDENT IS
ABSENT, YOU MUST HAVE A STATEMENT IN YOUR SYLLABUS THAT INFORMS THE PARENT
THAT HE/SHE MUST BRING OR SEND THE LONG STANDING ASSIGNMENT TO YOU OR EMAIL IT
TO YOU (IF FEASABLE TO DO SO) SO THAT YOU RECEIVE IT ON THE DAY IT IS DUE.
Sequoyah Automotive
Work Ethics and Participation
It is critical to your success that you follow these guidelines carefully. The course has been designed
to measure your work ethics, character, attitude, organizational skills, and teamwork abilities. Your
work ethics grade is coupled with your participation grade and attendance for a total of 25% of your
grade.
If you miss a class you will receive a 0 for a participation grade for the day. If you do not make up the
time within one week from the day you were absent the zero stands.
Participation scores on a daily basis are:
Worked the entire class without reminders 100
Worked most of the class but needed some reminders 80
Worked about half the class 50
Was disruptive, talkative, or would not work 0
A work ethics grade sheet will be completed at each progress report grade submission date. There are
Ten “Work Ethics Traits” that will be evaluated and scored by the instructor. Each trait has a
maximum point value of 10 for a maximum of 100. The grading rubric is as follows:
Exceeds expectations 10
Meets Expectations 8
Needs improvement 6
Unsatisfactory 0
Explanation of work Ethics
Explanation Of Work Ethics Grades Grades
Exceeds Work ethics performance is exemplary. Student has consistently
Expectations demonstrated characteristics that will stand out in the work
environment
Meets All work standards are met. The quality of the student’s work ethics
Expectations performance is that of a good employee in a normal work
environment
Needs Some standards are not met. Additional employability skills
Improvement training is recommended before placement can be considered.

employability skills is a must if the student is to survive in the work
environment.

Grade Rubric for Lab Work Performed in Automotive Technology
Labs are an important grade in the class and will be counted as a test grade.
In order to show that a student is competent (both in safety and basic skills)
NATEF requires students to complete successfully Tasks /Labs that are part
Of the NATEF curriculum.
Any missed labs must be made up just like the tests.
Some labs may need to be set up so appointments for make up labs
are required.
The Grading Scale will be on a Scale of 1-5
0 = The learner does not have any understanding of this competency
1 = Demonstrated some exposure but could not accomplish the job properly or safety
2 = Applies some of the competency properly
3 = Capable but needs further practice
4 = Performs the competency properly with only some reminders
5 = The student has mastered the competency
Grades will be assigned as follows!
5 = 100 4 = 90 3 = 80 2 = 70 1 = 60 0 = 0
Any failure to follow any safety rules results in a grade of 0. And the lab must be
retaken at a later date. See below.
Students will be allowed to retake any labs but must schedule an appointment
With the instructor.
