•    Buildings, Industry, Transportation are the largest areas
     where most energy is consumed

          More people spend most time of the day inside buildings



         There is therefore need to create a thermal and well lit environment
          in the building to enable the occupants to profitably use them.


     Energy is therefore neded for lighting, heating, cooling, ventilating
      and also for operating machines

• Educational buildings are areas where many people spend most time of the day

          It is easy to erect walls over a space, cover them with roofing,
          install windows and doors, partition the space and furnish it for both
          students and teachers. This alone does not qualify the building
          to be a school.

         There is need to create a thermal environment in the building to
          enable student concentrate and learn and the instructors to
          perform their responsibilities

          The used space has to be well lit to create an atmosphere
           of visual comfort

         The space has to be well ventilated

         There has to be provision for power supply to enable the use
          of machines used for learning

• Architecture and energy consumption

                    „Proper building design is the cheapest solution
                     to energy demands in buildings“

      We can design a building to use daylight a greater part of the day
       to minimise using artificial lighting

      We can design a building to the heat gain that may require
       mechanical cooling

      A building can be designed to allow natural ventilation to avoid using
       mechanical ventilation

      A building can be designed to allow for trapping of solar energy
       more easier and efficient that can generate power to operate the building

On a given clear day illumination can be as high as 120,000 lux and
global radiation exceeds 1000W/m²
