World Trade Center –Sept 11th 2001
The tragic day when 2 planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the Twin Towers,
destroying the complex. One World Trade Center is struck at 8:46 am, 2nd World Trade Center at 9:03
a.m.
President G.W Bush addresses the nation, saying “Today, our nation saw the very worst of
human nature. And we responded with the best of America –with daring of our rescue workers with the
caring for strangers and neighbors who cam e to give blood and help in any way they could.” All told
2975 men, women and even children fell victim to the 2nd terrorist attack on the W.T.C and the terrorist
attacks in Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The iconic Twin Towers of downtown Manhattan‘s W.T.C were a triumph of human imagination and will.
Completed in 1973, the Towers stood at 110 stories each, accommodating 5000 workers and 20,000
daily visitors in ten million square feet of space. They were the hub of the bustling financial district a top
tourist attraction and a symbol of New York Centre’s and America’s steadfast devotion to progress in
the future. September, 11th 2001, the W.T.C became the target of a massive attack that took the lives of
nearly 3000 people. The disaster also radically altered the skyline of New York Centre, destroying the
Twin Columns of glass and steel that over the years had come to embody the city itself. More than 40
rescue workers including 343 firefighters and 60 New York Center’s officers died, helping other people
to come out of the situation, but in vain. Today their names are emblazed on the Plaques in firehouses.
Police stations and in memorial throughout the city.
So let’s not forget this big day, September 11th 2001 and pray so that it never occurs again.
