The SCR is pleased to announce our first sponsored wine tasting of the year –
with wines supplied by Lillian Haynes of Wine’N’Things
(a division of Northeast Wines & Spirits Limited).

SPARKLING
Castell d’Olerdola Cava Reserva N.V. (Spain)
A blend of Macabeo 40%, Xarel lo 30% & Parellada 30%. Generous bubble detachment. This             90
wine is clean and fruity aroma, with some ageing hints. Slightly fruity and well balanced in
the mouth.

WHITE
Stella Bella Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2008 (Australia)
Aromas of elder flowers, black currants and gooseberries with nettles and sweet herbs, yellow
and pink citrus zest and just a dash of vanilla pod spice. A bundle of flavours layers and        118
textures. Lemon/lime citrus all fresh and crunchy. Exotic veils of sweet herbs, nettles,
gooseberry, stone fruits and cardamom spice. A citrus oil and lemon thickness is finished with
a fruit tingling acidity.
Tohu Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (New Zealand)
This wine has an intense mineral nose showcasing the tomato stalk, gooseberries and
lemongrass. On the palate the wine shows herbaceous green pepper and fleshy guava notes           110
with a steely minerality providing focus. Racy acidity provides a long and very crisp finish
with a touch of fruit sweetness for balance.
Villiera Chenin Blanc 2009 (South Africa)
The wine has intense fruit with a hint of wood spice on the nose, including pineapple, guava       70
and citrus. On the palate it is rich and medium bodied with good balance and a long finish.
Mt. Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Pinot Grigio 2009 (Australia)
Aroma of pear, apple and honeydew melon, with flint and mineral characters. Densely                98
textured, the wine shows varietal palate weight. Pear and lychee fruit characters dominate the
mid palate, and fine acid builds length and structure.
RH Phillips Night Harvest Chardonnay 2007 (U.S.A)
The wine has a clean mouth-feel and medium palate weight. With scents of sweet vanilla and         80
oak, this wine carries a bouquet of fresh fruit flavours and a touch of sweet citrus and crisp
apple on the finish.

RED
Tamar Ridge Estate Kayena Pinot Noir 2008 (Australia)
Ripe fruit aromas with hints of mulberry and brambleberry and a subtle undertone of smoky         166
oak. Ripe flavours of dark plum, mulberry and loganberry dominate the front of the palate and
flow through to a finish with fine, silky tannins and sufficient acidity to add structure to
balance the rich fruit flavours of this wine.
Two in the Bush Merlot Cabernet 2007 (Australia)
This wine offers lifted aromas of ripe red fruits, fleshly plums and subtle oak. Rich vibrant
palate has hints of blackcurrant, nutmeg, briar and cedar. The intense dark berry flavours of     106
the Merlot balance the length and structure from the Cabernet.

Beyerskloof Pinotage 2008 (South Africa)
A complex wine with cherry and red berry flavours also well integrated with oak aromas. A          68
balanced wine with good structure and a smooth finishing.

Mt. Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Shiraz 2005 (Australia)
Aroma of plums, blackberry and classic cool climate pepper characters. Fine tannins are            98
supported by bright berry and delicate spice characters.
Yali Three Lagoons Carmenere Gran Reserva 2007 (Chile)
Intense in aromas of black fruits such as blackberries, mixed with traces of black pepper,
notes of vanilla and soft smoky hint. Great structure, rich and velvety tannins concentrated       96
body and long persistence, leaving an aftertaste full of fruity and spicy notes.

Frei Brothers Alexander Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (USA)
Aromas of cassis, dark berries and toasty oak. The firm, velvety tannins are complemented by      154
flavours of blackberry, raspberry, cedar, and tobacco with hints of vanilla and dark chocolate
that linger in a long, elegant finish.
