Thriller by Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson ... Thriller (1982)

Michael Jacksons Thriller is the bestselling album of all time, with 45

million worldwide sales powered by seven Top 10 U.S. singles and eight

Grammy Awards. The 1982 album was also a success from which the pop

superstar never really recovered--subsequent albums seemed to have no

other goal than to beat the records set by Thriller. The highly-polished

sound of Quincy Joness production sounds almost organic compared to

Jacksons more recent work, and in the same regard, Thriller was

significantly slicker than its predecessor, Off the Wall. Both albums

established a Jackson style that aimed for the dance floor with songs built

on a state-of-the-art bed of percussion and keyboards. Elements of

milestone Thriller tracks like Billie Jean (arguably Jacksons best-ever

performance) and Beat It (with its hard-rock solo by guitarist Eddie Van

Halen) influenced not just Jacksons records, but those of the entire dance-

pop world. On the song Thriller, Jackson indulged his taste for the juvenile

and invited Vincent Price to rap in a really scary voice. With Thriller the

album, Jackson created a different kind of monster--a hit album of such

magnitude that it would have an irrevocable impact not just on the singers

art, but on his altogether kooky life. --John Milward

In 1982, Michael had released one of the all-time greatest albums in music

history: THRILLER. This album speaks pure greatness, which is why

Michael brought home a total of eight grammy awards.

WANNA BE STARTIN SOMETHIN

The fourth single from the album. This is just an all-around awesome

dance track. Definitely one of Michaels very best songs.

BABY BE MINE

A cool song.

THE GIRL IS MINE (performed by Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney)

The first single from the album. This was such an incredible duet. Pauls

vocals, as always, are amazing. Both Paul and Michael sound great

together. And, as it turns out, this would not be the last time Paul

McCartney and Michael Jackson would record together. On Paul

McCartneys 1983 album, PIPES OF PEACE, there are two duets between

he and Michael: Say, Say, Say, which was released as a single and

became a big hit, and The Man.

THRILLER

The seventh single from the album. Everyone, fan or not, has heard this

song. If you dont know this song, then I dont how thats possible. This is

one of the greatest songs, ever. The video for this song remains one of

Michaels greatest music videos.

BEAT IT

The third single from the album. I was never partial to this one. But I

have to admit that beat and rhythm are pretty cool.

BILLIE JEAN

The second single from the album. Yet, another awesome MJ tune. In

1983, when Michael performed this one on Motown 25, Michael had

debuted the legender ... Moonwalk. What an awesome moment.

HUMAN NATURE

The fifth single from the album. This was always such a great, mellow

song.

P.Y.T. (PRETTY YOUNG THING)

The sixth single from the album. Another awesome tume. The Pretty

Young Thing female vocals actually belong to Michaels sister: La Toya &

Janet.

THE LADY IN MY LIFE

I never liked this song too much, either.

As I said before, this is one Michaels greatest, greatest, greatest albums.

This is an album that I have not stopped listening to. Its amazing how I

have not yet worn out my copy of this CD. What an awesome album. No

other words can describe this album.
