GENERAL INFORMATION
The following requirements are preferred of individuals applying to the 2011 Shelton Challenge
experience:
• Need to be a rising 9th thru 12th grade student
• Applicants need to have a 3.0 grade point average (unweighted) or higher
The Shelton Challenge is a six day residential experience to help students expand their knowledge
and skills of what it takes to be a leader. Students will participate in activities that will help them have
a greater understanding for: Personal Leadership Assessment and Interpersonal Dynamics; Role of
Values and Ethics in Leadership; Leadership Traits and Approaches; Teambuilding and Empowering
Others; Civic and Social Responsibility; and Goal Setting.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in team building activities, low and high ropes
courses, service project, and fun night activities to help students get to know others participating in
the program.
COST TO ATTEND PROGRAM
The cost to attend the Shelton Challenge six-day residential program is $575. This cost includes all
curriculum materials, lodging and food, low and high ropes training, transportation during week, and
night activities.
When sending the application, please also send $100 toward the final payment of $575 to hold space
in the program. If the applicant is not accepted to the program, the $100 will be refunded. If the
applicant is accepted, and the applicant then chooses not to attend the program, a refund may be
provided up to one month prior to the selected date to attend the program.
FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
There are limited scholarships available. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please
submit the financial scholarship form along with your application and note on the application that
you are applying for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded on first come basis as available to
students whose need is verified through the information provided on the financial scholarship form.
Anyone applying for scholarship is required to submit $25 when sending in application that will go
toward final payment. Full-scholarship recipients are required to pay an administrative fee of $25,
which the initial $25 will be used toward the administrative fee. Please refer to our website at
www.ncsu.edu/sheltonleadership to retrieve a financial scholarship form.
