Outreach Strategy: Partner organizations promoted tax preparation and related services through various channels:
h radio, flyers and community-based collaboration to assist low- to moderate-income families.
Tax Preparation Strategy: The Municipality of Caguas in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service and the
Puerto Rico Treasury Department sponsor an e-file tax preparation site to offer free tax preparation of the individual
federal returns and Puerto Rico individual tax returns to low- and moderate-income taxpayers residing in Caguas and
h neighboring municipalities.
Asset-Building Strategy: Attract financial institutions in coalition to provide free bank accounts to facilitate direct
h deposit and develop long-range asset building strategies.

For 2011 filing season, certified VITA volunteers prepared 341 individual federal returns (256 e-filed) and thousands
of individual income tax returns for Puerto Rico.
Offered financial education to its residents and neighboring municipalities.
Published articles on local newspapers promoting their services.
The Municipality of Caguas promoted the tax preparation services to its residents with the distribution of flyers
throughout Caguas neighborhoods and near municipalities.

Outreach Strategy: To inform low- to moderate-income families about the availability and filing requirements of the
Additional Child Tax Credit. Through partnerships, educate Limited English-speaking to understand and meet their life-
h cycle tax obligations.
Tax Preparation Strategy: To integrate existing sites into a more comprehensive demographic-based tax preparation
strategy for San Juan, Guaynabo and adjacent areas. To assist in the e-filing of federal tax returns at the Caribe Federal
Credit Union branch and San Patricio Office Center Co-located Site for the low to moderate - income and limited-English
h proficiency taxpayers of San Juan, Guaynabo and the Metropolitan area.

For 2011, prepared 450 returns (381 e-filed) at two free electronic tax preparation sites and outreach to low income
families in San Juan.
Coordinated ACTC outreach through local media (WKVM (810AM) Radio, WKAQ - radio, El Nuevo Día & El Vocero
newspaper).
Disseminated Publication 4281(PR), Tienes Niños to inform the community about the refundable tax credit.
Published an article on the Caribe federal website discussing the filing requirements for ACTC.

Expand the delivery of financial literacy, provide linkage to asset-building resources and sponsor a financial fair.
Develop enhanced strategies for volunteer recruitment, retention and training.
