Dr. Jose Eduardo P. Santos Receives Pfizer Animal Health Physiology Award
Champaign, IL – The American Dairy Science Association is proud to announce Dr. Jose Eduardo P.
Santos as the 2009 recipient of the Pfizer Animal Health Physiology Award. The award was presented on
Tuesday, July 14, 2009, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Montreal, QC,
Canada.
The Pfizer Animal Health Physiology Award was created to recognize outstanding research in dairy cattle
physiology. The winner must have research work in any area of animal physiology relating to the dairy
animal published in refereed journals in the five years immediately preceding the year of recognition,
and have been a member of the American Dairy Science Association for at least the last five successive
years.
José Eduardo P. Santos, associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of
Florida, grew up in Brazil. He obtained his DVM degree from São Paulo State University in Brazil in 1992.
He received his MS and PhD degrees in ruminant nutrition from the Department of Animal Sciences at
the University of Arizona in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and completed a clinical residency in dairy
production medicine at the University of California Davis. Santos is noted for his research and extension
activities on coordinating reproductive physiology and nutritional management programs to optimize
reproduction and health of dairy cows.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and Pfizer Animal Health present Dr. Jose Eduardo P. Santos with the
2009 Pfizer Animal Health Physiology Award.
