“Does democracy always win in democratic elections?”
Essay 1
Grade: 5
Recent events in X have drawn a lot of concern about the fairness of elections.
People disagree if they were democratic or not and if democracy is what wins in
democratic elections. In my point of view, democratic elections is just a myth, but there
are many people who still do not understand this.
First of all, elections are very closely related with huge sums of money. Only
those politicians who have enough of it are able to compete. Therefore, the threat of not
clear money arises. Special-interest groups are generous to politicians but this makes the
government dependable on its supporters.
What is more, bigger money means more successful election campaign, which is
essential nowadays. The easiest and most reliable way to receive enough votes is to
prepare good speeches and broadcast them on TV. Different promotions to voters, big
colourful posters and wonderful promises is what makes people vote for you. Very few
voters are thoughtful enough to understand that this is just the cover of a look.
The third thing that wins in democratic elections is a charisma of a politician.
Not everybody has it, but it does not mean that those politicians are worse. Maybe they
are simply more concerned about real actions than their image. However, people like
politicians who are interesting and imposing as personalities. For example, V.U is very
popular not only because of self-advertising, but also because of his communication
skills and self-confidence.
On the other hand, democracy wins in democratic elections in one way. If we
analyse the meaning of the word “democracy”, we will find out that it means the power
of people. We are free to choose the candidate, nobody forces us to vote for one or
another politician. It is only a question if the majority of people is educated enough to
make a thoughtful decision.
To sum up, elections are not so democratic as it may seem. Election technologies
and money nowadays can make much more than actions of the politicians. But one of
the ways to change this situation is to be more responsible and critical. And this is
important to every voter because democracy gives him a lot of rights and responsibilities.
Essay 2
Grade: 3
Have you ever fell into thinking about the meaning of democracy? A lot of
people think that it is a political system when everyone of us can express our free will in
elections or in some other cases take part in rulling our state. Maybe it is true, but I
think that there are cases when democracy fails sometimes.
First of all such things happens when people are persuaded in amazing promises,
that wake people’s hopes to have better life. A great example in history of Europe of
such fail of democracy was when Hitler took a rull in Germany. Elections were
democratic, but they brought a cruel rezym of totalitarizm. It was a great mistake of
democratic state.
Moreover, people could be bribed or threten in order to vote in such way that
would be useful for the parties that tries in different ways and besides not always in
honest ways to get a power of state. We can just be sorry that such things happens in
countries that declare democratic rights.
So, to summarize, there are cases when democracy doesn’t win in democratic
elections. There are things that take a great influence on people’s decision to support
particular party, even though it isn’t very honest. Money, a great ability to construct
people’s minds in a way that is the best for you to win are important but, to my mind
not acceptable in democratic state.
Essay 3
Grade: 1
Democracy is the best way to roole the country. Elections is the best way of
democracy. But unfortunatelly sometimes it is not like that.
Of course, there are a lot of democratical countries all over the world. The best
example of it is the United States of America, the Great Britain, all Western Europe
and others. We can found there a really democratical government and democratical
elections with no doubt.
But on the other hand, there are a lot of countries were are not democracy or it is
not a real democracy. I don’t talk about the countries roolling by dictators. I want to
talk about the countries which declare themselves democratical, but in fact they are not.
In my opinion, the best example of it is X and Y. Of course, we can found more
of them, but, to my mind, it is the best example, because it is our neighbours. I think,
there is little democracy in elections in these countries, because always the same
government wins and it gets a lot of wotes. Of course, someone can say that people
want to have such government and they vote for it, but on the other hand it can’t be,
because they have no choice. Due to this, there are a lot of unmotivated money which
influence elections.
Taking everything into account, we can say that despite democratical elections
democracy doesn’t always win. Because there are interests groups and unmotivated
money which influence elections and usually it happens in little developed democratical
countries.
