Load by Metallica
Metallica
With Load, Metallica takes a dramatic left turn with their music, continuing
in the direction suggested by Metallica, their previous album. The songs on
Load have groove; theyre slower, with far fewer of the lightning-fast riffs
that have been Metallicas trademark since their inception. While songs like
Aint My Bitch and Wasting My Hate are up-tempo and full of the vitriol one
would expect from the quintessential heavy metal band, 2 X 4 is hard rock
with a blues beat, Hero of the Day sounds positively mainstream, and
Mama Said is an actual, honest-to-god ballad. While some diehard fans
may find this mix unappealing, theres plenty to like about this album,
including its laid-back, rhythmic orientation, and James Hetfields
characteristic growl tempered by his growing maturity as a vocalist. --

I'd like to first apologize to Metallica for giving this album so much flack
upon initial release. Being a hardcore Metallica fan something about the
new logo, the short hair, and Until it Sleeps that really struck a negative
chord with me. I wanted another Kill 'em All, and was initially disappointed.
Sitting here today, a decade older I can't say how much I love this album.
70% of these songs are absolutely fantastic, and though it was a different
Metallica sound it was a unique & creative sound that stacks up there with
some of their greatest material.
The House that Jack Built, Bleeding Me, Ronnie, Outlaw Torn, & others
are so enjoyable that its hard to imagine why we were all so negative back
in the 90s. I'd love to see another album with the same song quality, sorry
Re-Load sucked.
