Community Stabilization Photo Contest

NeighborWorks America’s Stable Communities Program is holding a photo contest in
conjunction with the December NeighborWorks Training Institute Symposium: “Rising
to the Challenge: Stabilizing Communities in the Wake of Foreclosure” which will
be held on December 9, 2009 in the Washington DC metro area. Photos related to
community stabilization and neighborhood revitalization efforts, particularly in areas
impacted by foreclosure, will be accepted.
Who May Enter
The contest is open only to NeighborWorks chartered organizations, and thus
NeighborWorks America will not accept photo submissions from other organizations.
THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
Contest Prizes
Prizes will be awarded as grants to the NeighborWorks organizations submitting the
winning photos, as follows:
• First Prize: $2500 grant
• Second Prize: $1500 grant
• Third Prize: $1000 grant
The winning photos will be unveiled in a presentation at the Symposium. All photos
submitted may be displayed throughout the Symposium for participants to view.
Following the symposium the winning photos will be moved to the exhibit area and will
be on display for the remainder of the week. Photos will also be displayed on
StableCommunities.org following the Training Institute.
Judging
Photos will be evaluated by a Selection Committee composed of NeighborWorks
America staff. Photos will be judged on creative quality, including composition and
storytelling power; technical quality, including proper light exposure and focus; and
relevance to the eligible photo subjects listed below. Contest winners will be notified no
later than November 13, 2009.
How to Enter
Photos must be submitted via email to StableCommunities@nw.org by Friday, October
30, 2009. Each entry must include a completed and signed Release Form permitting
NeighborWorks America® to reproduce the photograph in any and all forms of media,
including on websites. Photos must be in a digital file, submitted electronically in a .JPG,
.TIF, or .ESP format, with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Each photo entry email
must include the name of the organization submitting the photo, the location of the photo
subject, and a description of the project or activity shown in the photo. You will receive
confirmation that your submission was received within two business days.

Eligible photo subjects include:
• Visual demonstrations of the impacts of foreclosure, including vacant houses
(exterior or interior) or distressed neighborhood scenes
• Before and after photos of rehabilitated properties or other neighborhood
revitalization or streetscape improvement projects
• Action shots of neighborhood improvement projects, for example photos of
residents engaged in park clean-ups or paint projects
• Photos of creative board-up methods or other interesting vacant property
treatments
• Photos deemed to be inappropriate, defamatory or otherwise objectionable will be
disqualified and such decision will be in the sole discretion of the sponsor of this
contest.
By entering into this photo contest you agree to be bound by the terms outlined herein,
including that this contest shall be subject to and governed by the rules of the District of
Columbia and the forum for any dispute will be in the District of Columbia.
