					               SURVEY CHECK LIST FOR THE NORDHAVN ATLANTIC RALLY

        PLEASE CONTACT DAVE HARLOW @ PAE YACHT BUILDERS FOR CLARIFICATION OF THE FOLLOWING SURVEY
        ITEMS AT 949-496-4848.

A      MAIN ENGINE:
     1 CHECK COOLANT LEVEL - RUN ENGINE AT FULL RPMs FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES AND CHECK FOR OVERHEAT -
       POSSIBLY FLUSH COOLING SYSTEM IF NECESSARY. BE AWARE OF SILICA DROP OUT WHEN CHECKING AND
       CHANGING COOLANTS.
     2 CHECK OIL LEVEL.
     3 CHECK MOTOR MOUNTS - SHOULD BE SECURE AND TIGHT - CHECK THAT THE BOLTS GOING INTO ENGINE BEDS
       ARE NOT STRIPPED OUT.
     4 CHECK BELTS FOR PROPER TENSION, NO WEAR OR CRACKING.
     5 CHECK COOLANT HOSES FOR CHAFING OR CRACKING.
     6 CHECK THROTTLE LINKAGE - END FITTINGS FOR FIT - CABLES TO BE SECURED IN PLACE.
     7 CHECK SHIFT LINKAGE - END FITTINGS FOR FIT - CABLE TO BE SECURED IN PLACE.
     8 CHECK SHAFT AROUND PACKING GLAND FOR CORROSION, IF SUSPECTED - PULL PACKING AND CHECK AREA
       BEHIND PACKING FOR CORROSION. SEE THAT SYSTEM WAS BONDED IN THE PAST AND THAT BONDING IS IN
       PLACE AND WORKING. PACKING GLAND TO BE DOUBLE NUTTED.
    10 CHECK SHAFT COUPLING THAT NUTS ARE TIGHT.
    11 CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM MOUNTS, HEAT WRAPS IN PLACE, NO PART OF EXHAUST TOUCHING OVERHEAD OR
       WALLS OF STACK. MAKE SURE HANGERS ARE SECURED AND BOLTS ARE TIGHT.
    12 CHECK TRANSMISSION, CHANGE OIL AND INSPECT OIL FOR SHAVING OR PARTICLES THAT MAY SHOW
       TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS.
    13 CHECK THAT RETURN FUEL LINE IS SECURED AND HAS GOOD , FLEXIBLE HOSE WITH NO CHAFE OR CRACKING.
    14 PRIMARY RACOR FILTERS SHOULD HAVE SMALLER MICRON FILTERS THAN ENGINE MOUNTED FILTER SO
       PRIMARY FILTER CLOGS BEFORE ENGINE FILTER. RACOR FILTER SHOULD HAVE VACUUM GAUGE TO SHOW IF
       FILTER IS CLOGGING.
    15 CHECK TO SEE THAT STARTER MOTOR AND SOLENOID ARE WORKING PROPERLY WITH NO SIGNS OF
       OVERHEATING. NORDHAVN 50's HAD AN EARLY HISTORY OF FAILING STARTERS.
    16 BOATS WITH L668 FOR MAIN ENGINE SHOULD CARRY SPARE OIL FILTER HOSES, BOTH IN AND OUT. THESE ARE
       AVAILABLE FROM ADE.

B       GEN SET:
    1   CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.
    2   CHECK OIL LEVEL.
    3   CHECK MOTOR MOUNTS.
    4   CHECK BELTS FOR PROPER TENSION.
    5   CHECK HOSES FOR CHAFING.
    6   CHECK THROTTLE LINKAGE.
    7   CHECK HOSE RUNS FOR CHAFE AND TIGHTEN ALL HOSE CLAMPS.
    8   VERIFY OUTPUT VOLTAGE AND HZ.
    9   LOOK AT SALT WATER PUMP FOR LEAKS.

    C WING ENGINE:
     1 CHECK COOLANT LEVEL - RUN ENGINE A FULL RPMs AND CHECK FOR OVERHEAT - POSSIBLY FLUSH COOLING
       SYSTEM IF NECESSARY.
     2 CHECK OIL LEVEL.
     3 CHECK MOTOR MOUNTS - SHOULD BE SECURE AND TIGHT - CHECK THAT THE BOLTS GOING INTO ENGINE BEDS
       ARE NOT STRIPPED OUT.
     4 CHECK BELTS FOR PROPER TENSION, NO WEAR OR CRACKING.
     5 CHECK COOLANT HOSES FOR CHAFING OR CRACKING.
     6 CHECK THROTTLE LINKAGE - END FITTINGS FOR FIT - CABLES TO BE SECURED IN PLACE.
     7 CHECK SHIFT LINKAGE - END FITTINGS FOR FIT - CABLE TO BE SECURED IN PLACE.
     8 CHECK SHAFT AROUND PACKING GLAND FOR CORROSION, IF SUSPECTED - PULL PACKING AND CHECK AREA
       BEHIND PACKING FOR CORROSION. IT HAS BEEN NOTED RECENTLY THAT TWO WING ENGINE SHAFTS HAVE HAD
       CORROSION PROBLEMS, PLEASE TAKE CARE TO CHECK THE WING ENGINE SHAFT CAREFULLY.
     9 CHECK SHAFT COUPLING THAT NUTS ARE TIGHT.
    10 CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR CRACKED HOSES, ANTI SIPHON VALVE WORKING AND NO CHAFING OF HOSES.
    11 CHECK THAT RETURN FUEL LINE IS SECURED AND HAS GOOD , FLEXIBLE HOSE WITH NO CHAFE MARKS.
    12 PRIMARY RACOR FILTERS SHOULD HAVE SMALLER MICRON FILTERS THAN FILTER ON ENGINE SO PRIMARY
       FILTER CLOGS BEFORE ENGINE FILTER. RACOR FILTER SHOULD HAVE VACUUM GAUGE TO SHOW IF FILTER IS
       CLOGGING.

D      FUEL SYSTEM:
    1  CHECK FUEL MANIFOLDS FOR LEAKS.
    2  CHECK FUEL TANK SUPPLY VALVES FOR LEAKING.
    3  CHECK ALL FUEL HOSES FOR CHAFING AND ADD CHAFE GUARD WERE NEEDED.
    4  CHECK THAT FUEL TRANS SYSTEM TRANSFERS FUEL PROPERLY.
    5  CHECK FOR DEBRIS - WATER IN ALL PRE FILTER BOWLS.
    6  DRAIN AND INSPECT FUEL TANKS TO LOOK FOR SEDIMENT OR CORROSION.
    7  NORDHAVN 46s AND 50s WITH TOP FEED FUEL PICK UP LINES SHOULD HAVE FUEL PICK UP TUBES INSPECTED
       TO MAKE SURE PARTICLE SCREEN HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM PICK UP END.
     8 46s AND 50s, WITH TOP FUEL PICK UP LINES ON FUEL TANKS, SHOULD REMOVE FUEL PICK IP LINE FROM TOP OF
       TANKS AND INSPECT FOR DEBRIS AND OR FIBERGLASS STRANDS THAT MAY BE LODGED THERE.
     9 FUEL FILL CAPS SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR PROPER SEALING.
    10 CARRY SPARE FUEL HOSE AND END FITTINGS.

E        ENGINE ROOM:
    1    CHECK THAT ALL BLOWERS ARE OPERATIONAL.
    2    CHECK UNDER EACH FLOOR BOARD FOR WATER LEAKS - OIL LEAKS - DEBRIS.
    3    CHECK THAT ALL THRU HULLS ARE OPERATIONAL.
    4    CHECK ALL THRU HULLS HOSE CLAMPS - USE NUT DRIVER ON EACH CLAMP.
    5    CHECK MUFFLER AND ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR RUST, WEAR OR CORROSION, CHECK HARCO MUFFLER
         AND WRINKLE BELLY .

F     BILGE PUMPS AND ALARMS:
    1 BILGE SHOULD BE CLEAR OF DEBRIS AND CLEAN.
    2 CHECK MAIN BILGE PUMP. NO CRACKS OR CRACKS IN HOSES, PUMP IS IN WORKING ORDER, FLOAT SWITCH
      WORKS. HOSE END SHOULD HAVE SCREEN IN PLACE.
    3 CHECK TO SEE THAT MANUAL BILGE PUMP WORKS. LOOK FOR ROTTEN RUBBER IN BELLOWS AND HOSES. HOSE
      END SHOULD HAVE SCREEN IN PLACE.
    4 SHOULD HAVE ON BOARD ONE HIGH VOLUME BILGE PUMP. THIS CAN BE A 110V UNIT THAT IS SIMPLY A PLUG IN
      AND LOWER INTO THE BILGE.
    5 HAVE AT LEAST ONE HIGH WATER BILGE ALARM ON BOARD. PLACED IN BILGE AREA WITH ALARM IN PILOT
      HOUSE.
    6 CHECK MUFFLER AND ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR RUST, WEAR OR CORROSION, CHECK HARCO MUFFLER
      AND WRINKLE BELLY .
    7 N50s SHOULD ALSO HAVE A SECOND HIGH WATER BILGE ALARM FLOAT SWITCH PLACED IN THE BULB AREA WITH
      ALARM IN PILOT HOUSE.

G        STEERING SYSTEM:
    1    CHECK FOR PROPER FLUID AMOUNT IN RESERVOIR AT LEAST 3/4 FULL.
    2    CHECK FOR PROPER PRESSURE IN RESERVOIR - 25 - 30 LBS.
    3    CHECK THAT THERE ARE NO LEAKS FROM THE RESERVOIR TO THE RAM, WHEREVER LINES ARE VISIBLE.
    4    CHECK THAT LINES ARE SECURE AND NOT ABLE TO WIGGLE , VIBRATE OR CHAFE WHILE RUNNING.
    5    CHECK THAT RUDER SHAFT AND ARM ARE SECURE WITH DOUBLE NUTS. OUTSIDE NUT IS TO BE NYLOCK NUT.
    6    CHECK THAT RUDDER SHAFT GLAND IS SECURE WITH NO LEAKS.
    7    CHECK STEERING SYSTEM FOR PORT AND STBD TURNING. LOCK TO LOCK IS TO BE 6 TO 6 1/2 TURNS.
    8    REMOVE SHAFT PACKING AND CHECK RUDDER SHAFT FOR CORROSION.
    9    ADD GREASE TO BEARING AND SEAL TOP OF BEARING WITH GREASE TO STOP WATER BUILD UP.

H        STABILIZERS:
    1    CHECK FLUID LEVEL.
    2    DO A VISUAL INSPECTION OF HOSES PUMPS AND GEAR BEFORE START UP.
    3    CHECK ALL HOSES FOR LEAKS.
    4    CHECK ALL HOSES FOR CHAFING.
    5    RUN BOAT AND CHECK SYSTEMS UNDERWAY. SYSTEM SHOULD RESPOND CORRECTLY IN - OFF - CENTER - RUN -
         AND REVERSE LOCK OUT.
    6    CHECK SYSTEM TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT TESTING.
    7    CHECK HYDRAULIC PUMP OVERHUNG LOAD ADAPTOR FOR CRACKS, WEAR, AND FOR ADJUSTABILITY.
    8    BOATS WITH DIRECT ENGINE MOUNTED HYDRAULIC PUMPS MUST HAVE PTO COVER PLATE ON BOARD SHOULD
         PUMP NEED REMOVING.
    9    BOATS WITH NAIADS SHOULD HAVE BYPASS KIT ON BOARD IN CASE ONE ACTUATOR FAILS. SEE NAIAD FOR THIS
         PART.
    10   BOATS WITH NAIADS SHOULD CHECK ROD ENDS FOR PLAY. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL ROD ENDS FAIL ON NAIADS
         AND THESE NEED TO BE CHECKED VERY CLOSELY. THESE SHOULD BE REPLCED OR YOU SHOULD CARRY
         SPARES ON BOARD.

I        BOW THRUSTER:
    1    CHECK FLUID IN RESERVE OR HEADER TANKS. NOTE LEVELS.
    2    CHECK HOSES FOR LEAKS AND CHAFING.
    3    CHECK WIRING CHAFING.
    4    LOOK CLOSE AT INSTALLATION OF TUBE AND MOTOR FOR LEAKS.

J        LAZARETTE:
    1    CHECK ALL THRU HULLS OPEN AND CLOSE SMOOTHLY.
    2    CHECK ALL THRU HULL HOSE CLAMPS ARE TIGHT.
    3    CHECK FOR CHAFE ON ALL HOSES AND WIRE RUNS.
    4    CHECK THAT HATCH CLOSES TIGHT AND SECURE SHOULD BE HAVE GOOD WATER TIGHT SEAL.. HATCHES IN THE
         PAST HAVE LOOKED LIKE THEY ARE SEALED BUT HAVE PROVEN IN HEAVY WEATHER TO LEAK.. FLOOD AFT DECK
         TO TEST.

K        DC SYSTEM:
    1    CHECK THAT BATTERY CABLES ARE SECURED TIGHT TO BATTERY LUGS.
    2    CHECK CABLES DO NOT CHAFE AS THEY RUN THROUGH BULKHEADS AND AROUND CORNERS.
    3    CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE AT DC PANEL.
    4    START MAIN ENGINE AND CHECK ALTERNATOR OUTPUTS.
    5    MAKE SURE BATTERIES ARE HELD TIGHT AND SECURED IN PLACE.
    6    CHECK BATTERY CABLE TO MAKE SURE IT IS PROPER BATTERY CABLE.

L        CHAIN LOCKER:
    1    CHAIN TO BE SECURED TO BOAT IN CHAIN LOCKER.
    2    CHECK WINDLASS BOLTS AND NUTS FOR PROPER FIT AND TIGHTNESS.
    3    CHECK THAT ALL WIRES IN CHAIN LOCKER ARE SECURE AND OUT OF THE WAY OF FALLING CHAIN.
    4    CHECK ALL HOSES THAT THEY ARE SECURE AND OUT OF THE WAY OF FALLING CHAIN.
    5    CONFIRM WIRE END CONNECTION ARE TIGHT TO WINDLASS CONNECTIONS.
    6    CHECK WINDLASS WORKS FROM ALL SWITCH LOCATIONS.
    7    CHECK BOW THRUSTER WORKS FROM ALL BOW THRUSTER SWITCH LOCATIONS.
    8    CHECK BOW THRUSTER FOR LEAKS AND CLEAN WIRE RUNS.
    9    CHAIN LOCKER DRAIN MUST BE CLEAR AND ABLE TO DRAIN OFF LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER.

M     GRAY TANK:
    1 CHECK GRAY WATER TANK PUMP OUT. FILL AND NOTE THAT SEALAND MONITOR LIGHTS IN SEQUENCE AND THAT
      PUMP ACTIVATES AND THEN STOPS WHEN TANK IS EMPTY.

N     BLACK TANK:
    1 CHECK BLACK WATER TANK BY FLUSHING HEADS UNTIL TANK IS HALF FULL AND THEN ACTIVATE ELECTRIC
      PUMP. FILL AGAIN AND CHECK MANUAL PUMP.
    2 CHECK THAT DRAIN LEADS INTO TANK ARE NOTE CRACKED, DON'T LEAK, DRAIN ALL WATER INTO TANK AND ARE
      SECURED SO AS NOT TO SAG.

O     HEADS:
    1 CHECK TOILET FOR FLUSHING.
    2 CHECK AND MARK "Y" VALVES, CONFIRM OVERBOARD AND TANK SETTINGS.

P        EXTERIOR:
    1    CHECK THAT ALL DOORS OPEN - CLOSE AND SEAL PROPERLY.
    2    CHECK THAT ALL OPENING WINDOWS OPEN - CLOSE AND SEAL PROPERLY.
    3    CHECK ALL BOARDING AND ACCESS DOORS OPEN - CLOSE AND LATCH PROPERLY.
    4    CONFIRM THAT EXTERIOR LOCKERS OPEN CLOSE AND LATCH PROPERLY.
    5    CONFIRM THAT DORADE VENTS HAVE THE COVER PLATES ON BOARD.
    6    CHECK BOW ROLLER FOR FIT OF ANCHOR. ANCHOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE SECURED TIGHT IN PLACE WITH
         LINE OR CABLE.
     7   CHECK INSIDE OF DRY STACK FOR WIRE RUNS BEING NEAT, SECURE AND TIGHT AWAY FROM EXHAUST.
     8   CHECK RUNNING LIGHTS.
     9   CHECK ANCHOR LIGHT.
    10   CHECK BOAT DECK LIGHTS.
    11   N 50S SHOULD HAVE PILOT HOUSE WINDOW STORM PLATES.
    12   ALL NORDHAVNS TO HAVE AT LEAST PORT AND STBD SIDE SALON STORM PLATES.
    13   STORM COVERS FOR ER VENTS FOR 46 STBD SIDE AND COCKPIT ER VENTS. THESE COVERS ARE TO PREVENT
         SEA WATER FROM FLOODING INTO ER IN HEAVY WEATHER. THESE CAN BE CANVAS WITH BOLT ROPE TOP AND
         BOTTOM. THIS CANVAS CAN SLIDE INTO BOLT ROPE SLIDES PLACED ABOVE AND BELOW THE VENTS, THE
         CANVAS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SLIDE IN AND BE FASTENED FORE AND AFT WITH SNAPS. PLEASE CALL PAE FOR
         DRAWING.
    14   ALL NORDHAVNS TO HAVE SCUPPER FLAPS ON COCKPIT LEVEL SCUPPERS.

Q     PARAVANE STABILIZERS:
    1 CHECK MAST AND STRUTS THAT COTTER PINS ARE IN AND RIG IS SECURED. TOP BOLT SHOULD HAVE NUT
      DRILLED AND PINNED IN PLACE.
    2 CHECK MAST AND BOOM EYES FOR WEAR.
    3 BOATS WITH MAST SHOULD HAVE TEMPORARY FORESTAYS HOOKED TO MAST HEAD AND READY TO RUN TO
      FORWARD TO SECURE MAST IN CASE OF STAY OR STRONG BACK PROBLEM.
    4 CHECK AND ADJUST THE STAYS AND STANDING RIGGING.
    5 PARAVANE RIG SHOULD BE THOUGHROLY INSPECTED AND TESTED. SPARE LINES, CHAIN, FISH AND NEEDED
      CABLE SHOULD BE ON BOARD. A SMALL GRAPPLING HOOK WITH 50' OF LINE SHOULD ALSO BE ON HAND TO
      RETRIEVE FISH IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH RETRIEVAL SYSTEM.
    6 BOATS WITH PARAVANES SHOULD CARRY CABLE CUTTERS SUITABLE TO CUT THE FOREGUY CABLE SHOULD
      THE NEED ARISE.
