Achievements & Results

 Saved Optus ~$AUD 20 million, 40 physical server racks (50 m2 floor space), 1000 physical

servers, 700,000 Watts, 2,000,000 BTU-Hr through end to end delivery of various server

consolidation and remediation projects over 5 years

 Designed and implemented the first server virtualisation in Optus in 2005. This

infrastructure has grown to 800 servers in recent times. Trained staff, governed strategic

direction, managed a cost centre, handled escalations, and defined policies for this platform.

Ongoing, server virtualisation in Optus continues to save ~$AUD 1,296,000 annually

 Created a new design framework by which all infrastructure designs in Optus now follow.

This saved more than 4 man hours per project (~$AUD 1,728,000 annually)

 Automated server provisioning (VMware ESX, Virtual Machines, Windows and Red Hat),

backup, monitoring. Saving 2 man hours build time per server (~$AUD 1,536,000 annually)

splitting of server functions onto separate hosts, physical relocation, upgrading of

multiple operating systems/applications to comply with business requirements and

budgetary restraints.
