									Role Profile Title: Data Analyst Grade/Scale: 10-12 Reports to: Head of Individual Giving Department and Division: Individual Giving, External Affairs Direct Reports: None Budget/Resource Responsibility: None Role Purpose:

The role of the Data Analyst is to provide strategic and tactical support to the Voluntary Fundraising team and wider External Affairs by analysing and interpreting supporter and financial data in order to make recommendations on strategy development and decision making.
Key Dimensions

As the data interpretation expert within the department the Data Analyst will work closely with the Head of Individual Giving and the Database Manager and develop relationships with key external data agencies.

1. To analyse financial and behavioural information and build models and analysis to aid interpretation. 2. To carry out data selections and analysis for marketing activity as appropriate. 3. To use analysis findings to develop new targeting models and segmentation strategies. 4. To work with the Database Manager, finance analysts and IT Department to ensure that the analysis needs of the fundraising department are met and that the resources and tools are in place to deliver the analysis required.
Job Breadth and Communication

5. To work across the department with all teams to analyse and interpret supporter and financial data and make recommendations on tactical improvements and strategy development. 6. To work with the fundraising management team and finance analysts to develop business cases and investment proposals for new activities. 7. To identify, commission and manage external data agencies to deliver the analysis programme as required and to work with other agencies as appointed by the fundraising teams such as the direct marketing agency to maximise added value. 8. To be the expert user of data analysis tools within the External Affairs department and to provide training to other members of the department as appropriate.
Decision Making

9. To build propensity and predictive models to support the development of the long-term fundraising strategy. 10. To make recommendations to improve and guarantee the quality and clarity of data within the supporter database.
Problem Solving/Creative Effort

11. To devise and produce regular reports to aid teams in monitoring and analysing performance. 12. To maintain an awareness of, and learning in, current trends and developments in marketing analysis and use this information to enhance in-house analysis projects and disseminate learning to the database and fundraising teams.
Accountability and Impact

13. To produce regular high-level reports and analysis for the fundraising senior management team and the Director of Fundraising to aid in reviewing performance against one and five year plans and strategies.

PERSON SPECIFICATION MINIMUM ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING       Significant experience of producing analysis from customer/supporter databases to inform marketing strategy Experience of producing complex selections from customer/supporter databases for marketing activity Lead involvement in major analytical projects that have had significant demonstrable financial or business benefits. Experience of using database querying tools to write reports Demonstrable experience of using analytical and statistical modelling packages and tools e.g. SPSS, Business Objects, OLAP Experience of analysing data in Excel and Access

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE       Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of customer databases Detailed understanding of direct and digital marketing and how to use analysis to maximise return on investment Excellent project management skills Highly developed interpersonal skills Ability to communicate complex technical information and analysis to a non technical audience Advanced Excel, Access and analytical tool skills

WORK-RELATED CIRCUMSTANCES   Willingness to occasionally work unsociable hours Willingness to occasionally work/stay away from home/travel
