SIGNIFICANCE OF EID

Definition of Eid





 It means happiness, joyfulness, celebrations for

Muslim community, as alternate Islamic festivals, a

solemn festival (Eid), a joyful celebration of the

achievement and the finally celebrate annual days of

festivity.

Types of Eid



 We have two kinds of Eids as

following:



Eid al-Adha



Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr





 The Prophet (PBUH) connected Eid al-Fitr with

completion of the month of Ramadan. There are

some reports that the Prophet (PBUH) offered the

first Eid prayer at Madinah in the first year of

migration.

Eid al-Adha





 The Prophet (PBUH) connected the first day of

Shawwal, while Eid al-Adha was connected with

the 10th of Zil-Hajjah.

 The holiday follows the month of Ramadan,

falling on the first day of Shawwal (the tenth

month in the Islamic calendar). As with all

months in the Islamic calendar, it begins with the

sighting of the new moon. For this reason there

may be regional differences in the exact date of

Eid, with some Muslims fasting for 29 days and

some for 30 days.

Timing for Eid al-Adha





 The first day of the lunar month of Zil-Hijja, and

accordingly Arafat Day will be on the 9th of

When Prescribed Eids





 Fasting of the month of Ramadan, Zakat al-

Fitr, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha were

prescribed almost at the same time in the 2nd

 The first Eid was celebrated in 624 CE by the

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with his friends

and relatives after the victory of the battle of

Badr.

 It is also historically known that the institution of

Hajj was connected with the sacrificial acts of

Prophet Ibrahi’m and included animal sacrifice as

well as Wuquf at Arafah.

 Said Jesus the son of Mary: "O Allah our Lord!

send us from heaven a Table set (with viands),

that there may be for us - for the first and the last

of us - a solemn festival (Eid) and a Sign from

Thee; and provide for our sustenance, for Thou

art the best sustainer (of our needs)." (Al-

Maidah:14)

From Hadith



 “Anas ibn Malik reported that in pre-Islamic

Jahili period people (in Madinah) used to

celebrate two annual days of festivity. When

Prophet (PBUH) came to Madinah he said, “you

used to have two days of celebration, Allah

(SWT) has replaced them with better two days:

the day of Fitr and the day of Adha.” Nisai’,

Sunan al-Kubra’, 1, 542; Sunan al-Sughra’, 3,

199.

Greeting of Eid





 A common greeting during this 3-day festival is

"Eid Mubarak". Which closely translated means

"Happy Eid!"

Muslim Tradition





 Muslims are encouraged to dress in their best

clothes, new if possible, and to attend a special

Eid prayer that is performed in congregation at

mosques or open areas like fields, squares etc.

Practices of Muslim



 Before the prayer the congregation recites the

Takbiir as follow:



“Allahu akbaru, Allahu akbaru la illaha ila

Allah, wa Allahu akbar, Allahu akbaru wa

lillah hilhamd”



(God is Greatest, God is Greatest There is

no deity but [the One] God God is Greatest,

God is Greatest and to Him goes all praise.)

Animal Sacrifice



 Slaughter Animal: Narrated Jundab: On the

day of Nahr the Prophet (PBUH)… said,

"Anybody who slaughtered (his sacrifice)

before the prayer should slaughter another

animal in lieu of it, and the one who has not

yet slaughtered should slaughter the sacrifice

chanting Allah's name on it."

Activities of Eid days Images





 It depends on Muslim and none Muslim

countries.

Muslim Countries



 Governments decorate national Mosque and

government buildings by color of lights, main streets

by color of flags on the Capital. It is national holiday

at least three days. Markets have well decorated by

color of different banners, color of flags & festoons

and special sell price of goods. Eids images are longer

before and after Eid days. These Eids images affect in

our society everywhere.

None Muslim Countries





 The Eid days images are only Muslim Families,

Muslim community centers, Mosques and

Muslim Clubs. People are huge each other men

by men, women by women and children by

children. These images are not longer before and

after Eid days.

States of America

Eid Celebrations Islamic Circle of North

America



 President of ICNA, Dr. Khurshid Khan has

thanked all those 50,000+ Muslims around the

country who participated in these historic Eid

Celebrations under the banner of Islamic Circle

of North America.

Great Muslims Adventure

 New Jersey Chapter: Celebrated the Eid at

SixFlags Park on two consecutive days, October

1st. and 2nd. and attracted 20,000 Muslims

Alhamdolillah.

 Atlanta Chapter: More than 5,000 attended Eid

Celebrations, the last in the series of nationwide

Eid gatherings.

 Dallas Chapter: Event was attended by 10,000+

 Los Angeles Chapter: Brought out 8,000+

 Washington, DC a Chapter: Attracted 7,000+

 Boston Chapter: Saw close to 2,000 Muslims

celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr together.

Lesson from Eid days





 Sacrifice the best thing for Allah

 Share foods with all class people

 Giving money who is needy.

 Love each other

 Give gifts for children.

 A collective Ibadah
