New Exhibit: “8TH ANNUAL LAS MEDALLAS DE ORO ART SHOW”
The Santa Paula High School Art Department will open their annual exhibit of the
best student art of the year, “The 8th Annual Las Medallas de Oro Art Show,” on Sunday,
June 4, 2005, at the City of Santa Paula’s California Oil Museum (1001 E. Main St.,
Santa Paula, 805-933-0076, $4 Adults, $3 Seniors, $1 Children). More than 100 students
will exhibit their work in this annual juried competition. Work will be presented in four
categories: drawing, mixed media, ceramics, and graphic design. A jury of arts
professionals will select winners in each category.
“We have a wonderful show this year. The group projects are a great way for the
students to learn how to cooperate with each other. Their project is like putting a puzzle
together,” says Ellen Park, Fine Arts Teacher at Santa Paula High School.
The opening reception will take place from 1 - 3 PM, Sunday, June 4, with food
and refreshments. Winners will be announced in a program beginning at 1:30 PM and
prizes will be awarded. For many students, this is their first opportunity to exhibit their
work in a professional setting. The public is invited to attend and meet the participants in
this popular student exhibition.
This museum arts education program has been supported by grants from the Bess
Spiva Timmons Foundation since 1999. Since that time, student participation has more
than tripled.
