       IPBA SILENT AUCTION TO BENEFIT
         JAPANESE RED CROSS SOCIETY
The Inter-Pacific Bar Association Scholarship Committee is
holding a Silent Auction fundraising event at the Kyoto
Conference. Although originally intended to fund scholarships for
young lawyers and lawyers from developing countries to attend our
Conferences, the proceeds of the Silent Auction will now be
contributed, with the consent of our donors, to the Japanese Red
Cross Society to assist earthquake and tsunami victims following
the devastating March tragedy in Northern Japan.

Fabulous items have been donated by our generous members and
their clients for you to bid on.

We hope you will take this opportunity to bid generously and
support relief efforts in Japan through our Silent Auction!

                                             Guy Buffet
Guy Buffet was born in Paris on January 13, 1943. His parents were involved in the restaurant business and enjoyed
art. Guy learned that his neighborhood had once been the home of such famous artists as Picasso, Matisse and
Chagall. “At home there was always conversation about these artists”, he says, “and I used to listen to the
conversations while doing my homework at the kitchen table. I remember drawing on napkins and the linen
tablecloths while my brothers were busy with kitchen preparations”.

On Guy’s 12th birthday, his mother gave him his first box of paints along with needed supplies such as canvas,
brushes and a wooden easel. The young Buffet was soon displaying paintings on the walls of the family restaurant.
He sold his first watercolor painting to an American who was visiting the restaurant and this is where is all began.

At the age of 14, Guy enrolled in the famed Beaux Arts de Toulon and later studied advanced painting in Paris. By
age 18, he joined the French Navy where his artistic abilities were well recognized by the Navy as they named him
their official artist. Guy was given the prestigious assignment to “paint the world”.

“In the South Pacific, while I was on shore leave and hitchhiking with some fellow sailors”, says Buffet, “we were
picked up by a motorist who happened to be the mayor of the city. After visiting the ship and seeing some of my
paintings, the mayor talked to the captain and got permission for me to put on an exhibit in town.” From this came a
series of one-man exhibitions in exotic Tahiti and New Caledonia. Additionally, the French Navy helped organize
his first exhibition in the Hawaiian Islands, introducing Buffet to what he calls “Paradise”. This was now 1963.

Guy settled in Hawaii upon his discharge from the Navy, after the prominent Cooke family offered to provide him
living and studio space on Molokai. What followed were several commissions from the Hawaii State Foundation
on Culture and the Arts, which funded major murals at public places across the state of Hawaii.

Guy has traveled the world over painting not only Hawaiian themes. He has derived from his French heritage, the
whimsical sommeliers, chefs and waiters in hilarious character, consistently capturing the spirit of the French and
their love of fine food and wine. The Italian countryside, Amsterdam, China, Tahiti, India and other exotic locations
have found their way onto the canvasses of Guy Buffet. Guy has an extremely active imagination and exposes his
humor and wit in his work.

Over the years Guy has been commissioned by many corporations, including Aloha Airlines, Grand Marnier, Inter-
Continental Beachcomber and Westin Hotels, Champagne Perrier-Jouet, Williams Sonoma and Crystal and Princess
Cruise Lines. Guy regularly makes appearances at special events, shows and fundraisers. His work appears on
myriad of products such as cups, plates, ties, clothing, and calendars.

Guy currently lives and works in the Monterey Bay area in California. Guy continues to travel the world to find
inspiration for his works of art. He can be seen at any number of events throughout the country, hosting art shows
and posing for snapshots with his delighted collectors.

                   PEARL AND TURQUOISE NECKLACE
                      WITH BUTTERFLY PENDANT

DESCRIPTION:
This pearl and turquoise necklace with butterfly pendant was created by Babs Miyano-
    Young.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Babs’ interest in art began in high school, where she took
every art course she could, including jewelry, ceramics, glass blowing, photography,
drawing and painting. She later attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, the
Honolulu Academy of Arts and the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, where she received
her BFA in 1982. She is mainly known in Hawai’i for her work in glass and sculpture. A
large free-standing outdoor sculpture can be seen at the University of Hawaii’s Stan
Sheriff Center. Her work has been displayed in invitational shows in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka,
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tennessee, and Florida and is in many collections nationally
and internationally. Many of her jewelry designs are collaborative works with her mother,
Florence Miyano, who does much of the assembly work. Babs enjoys combining
different elements and textures, often using contrasting bead sizes in creating one-of-a-
      kind necklaces.

              FROM NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

DESCRIPTION:
This is a bottle of 2007 Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California.

The product of a near-perfect growing season, this is one of the most complex and
mouth filling renditions of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to date. Blended to
showcase the rich diversity of great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings
together grapes from some of the Valley’s most acclaimed winegrowing appellations
and includes a mix of mountain and valley floor fruit. Aromas of ripe currant,
spearmint, marzipan and tobacco lead to intense flavors of blackberry and black

DESCRIPTION:
ST HENRI SHIRAZ - South Australia
    Vintage: 2006
Deeply fragrant with an alluring, floral and ethereal scent of blackberry liqueur, plums,
dark cherries and musky spices with minty undertones of restrained oak and sweet
leather, this is an elegant, fine-grained and richly flavoured example of the Australian
'burgundy' style, even though its label once contained the word 'claret'. It's long and
brooding, with its restrained expression of pure, pristine fruit overlying a chalky
backbone of kernelly tannin. Certain to flesh out magnificently (tasting notes of

                SILENT AUCTION RULES

The IPBA Scholarship Program Silent Auction, to be held during the IPBA
Annual Meeting and Conference, will be under the charge and direction of the IPBA
Silent Auction Committee. By participating in the IPBA Scholarship Program Silent
Auction, each bidder agrees to these Auction Rules.

      1. All items in the Silent Auction have bid sheets on the display table near
them with a title that includes “item name and number” clearly printed at the top of
each bid sheet. (Be sure to read titles prior to placing bids to ensure you are bidding
on the correct item.)
       2. Each Auction participant’s bid identification number is his or her IPBA
Annual Meeting and Conference registration badge number which the Auction
participant receives when he or she registers at the IPBA Annual Meeting and
Conference.
     3. When you want to bid, do so by writing your name and bid identification
number on the bid sheet next to the amount of your bid.
       4. Some items may have a “minimum bid” amount listed on the bid sheet.
This is the lowest and beginning bid for this item.
       5. Some items may have a “minimum raise” amount listed on the bid sheet.
Each subsequent bid must be a higher amount than the previous bid and satisfy the
minimum raise amount to be considered a “valid” bid. You may exceed the minimum
raise amount.
        6. Occasionally, items may be available for “Guaranteed Purchase”. If you
write your name and bid identification number next to the amount labeled
“Guaranteed Purchase”, you have bought the item. This will conclude the bidding on
that item.
      7. You may bid on as many items as you wish in the Silent Auction until
the Auction has ended.
       8. A Silent Auction official will circle the winning bid on each silent auction
bid sheet. A copy of the Silent Auction bid sheet, with the winning bid “circled”, will
be left in its place after the bidding is closed. Winning bids may also be announced at
the close of the event.
      9. All sales are final. There are no exchanges or refunds unless
otherwise noted.
       10. All items are “as is.” The IPBA has attempted to describe items
correctly based on the information provided by donors. Bidders will be expected to
read bid sheets for any restrictions, exclusions, etc.
      11. The value listed on the bid sheet is an estimate of fair market value.
Items have not been appraised unless noted.
       12. Payment for items purchased will be due immediately after the IPBA
Gala Dinner at the Westin Miyako Hotel on April 23, 2011. Any absent winning
bidders must make arrangements or appoint someone to pay for and collect items on
their behalf.
      13. Payment for items purchased must be made in full on the night of the
Auction. We accept cash, AMEX, MasterCard, Visa, or a U.S. Dollar or Japanese Yen

area at the Auction with your paid receipt.
         15. Each person bidding assumes all responsibilities related to the Auction
and items obtained at the Auction and agrees to hold the IPBA harmless from any
liability.
      16. The bidding currency will be indicated on the bidding sheet. The
currency conversion rate will be determined at the discretion of the IPBA Silent
