Important Areas of work
1. BUCS Advisory Group Meeting
Attended the BUCS Advisory Group on behalf of east Midlands. Gave a update on the
alcohol policy as well as listening to a very topical debate about tour companies in whch
BUCS are now gaining feedback. All day meeting in which a lot of policies, such as
playing conference’s were discussed. If any info is requested on this please let me know.
2. Meeting with TakeThat Photo
Met with the new photo company who are doing both the AU Ball and club photos.
Looked at potential sites and the dealings on the day. Was very impressed with them so
far and they seem very helpful and willing to do something different this year with the
clubs.
3. Alumni Challenge Meetings
Met several times with Tas and Alumni office regarding the alumni challenge weekend.
Now had over 100 people sign up and all things are planned for the weekend. Weekend
went well with current students taking home the trophy. With work done this year the
event is now up and running and was a success so im sure this will be happening again
next year.
4. Meeting with Tennis Club and Andy Borrie
Tennis club were brought into discipline regarding a graffiti social they put on in
Loughborough which someone from another university found out about and reported it to
BUCS for the language used and the offensive nature in the photos that were placed on
facebook. It was concluded by the AU and SDC that no harm was intended by the club
and it was not meant in an offensive nature, but was simply idiotic and naive to place the
pictures on facebook on a public domain where this nature of incident wouldn’t be seen
to kindly upon. The SDC decided not to punish the club and on this occasion the AU also
didn’t see what good a punishment upon the club would achieve. However, the AU have
placed a suspended sentence over the club with the agreement that if anything like this
happens again this year further action will be taken.
5. Cycle Road race
Now had the go ahead to host the first ever University Road Cycle Race which will be
taking place on the 8th May at 10.30am. the club are now leading on moving this forward
and support from the AU, Security, SDC, FM and Imago has been given to make this
possible.
6. AU training
Had meetings regarding AU training as well as giving 2 sessions myself.
7. Gordon Brown Meeting
Met with Gordon Brown and showed him around the facilities at Loughborough.
8. AU Ball
Again the majority of my work over the last couple of weeks. Met with power supply
people to look at how much power Crew can tap into as well as many meetings with Kat
Pegg. Tickets have now gone on sale.
9. Zenith meetings
More Zenith meetings discussing kit for next year. still nothing agreed or signed,
but looking positive. Brought Ewan to this one so he is aware of what could
potentially be happening next year.
10. Active universities Meeting
Met with SDC members and Budge to discuss the Sport England £10 million
funding round to improve participation. This is ongoing and a bid should be in
draft form within 3 weeks hopefully.
