This is a great center activity. I prepare a crate of books with a
variety of reading levels. If our basal story for the week is realistic
fiction, then I’ll put in realistic fiction. I have copies of the book
critic form in one side of a two-pocket folder in the crate. When
students select a book, they take a form too. After they read the book
they fill out the form. They finish by coloring in the number of
smiley faces to reflect their recommendation. The completed form
gets put back in the folder in the other pocket. Subsequent groups of
students can peruse the recommendations before selecting their
book.
