SBAP Case Study 1
Indiana Foundry
Using trichloroethylene to solvent bond the wax
trees in their lost wax process.
CMTI suggested trying an alternative solvent
blend cleaner designed to remove wax.
HAP reductions: 1,320 lbs annually
More importantly improved employee safety
Although new solvent almost twice as
expensive, no net production cost increase
due to lower evaporative loss
Case Study
ATLAS FOUNDRY COMPANY, INC.
Switched from a cupola melting furnace
to an electric induction furnace. Asked
us to evaluate impact of this change
Total Pollutant Reduction: 1,168 tons PY
Total Savings: $126,084 PY
Review of Current Practices
Why?
Because that is the way
we have always done it.
