CHECKLIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION TO BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION
(Place checkmark in box as completed)
   1. PERSONAL ESSAY – Write a short expository essay (of 225–250 words, typed, double spaced,
12 point font) that addresses your motivation for pursuing a bachelor’s degree. In particular, compare
and contrast your 11th and 12th grade English courses and how they have influenced your college
decision. Support your assertions with specific and concrete detail. Consider carefully your purpose,
message, audience, and tone in writing your essay. Remember to be clear, concise, and direct and pay
attention to diction (avoid slang, contractions, clichés). Be sure to list “Personal Essay of YOUR
NAME” at the top of the page. The Essay MUST be your own writing. Do not discuss your financial
      situation in this section.
  2. FINANCIAL NEED STATEMENT –
Using the same standards as your personal essay, write a brief narrative of no more than 225 words
(typed, double spaced, 12 point font) explaining your financial need. Describe any extenuating
circumstance that affects your ability to cover all your educational expenses. This section should
include a budget for two semesters as well as your name and “financial need statement of YOUR
NAME” at the top of the page. Do not unnecessarily repeat information from your personal essay
information in this section. You may consult a parent or advisor on financial matters, but the writing
must be your own. This information is used to determine eligibility for awards which specify financial
      need in the criteria.
  3. RECOMMENDATIONS (must be submitted in sealed envelopes with the application!)–
Using the attached Faculty Reference forms, obtain two (2) references from teachers with whom you
