Now that you are familiar with the ways in which our talent can meet your recruitment needs, you can decide which recruitment method best suits you. Recruitment activity at the School tends to fall into two categories: online recruitment and on-campus recruitment. Our team is happy to work with you to devise a tailored recruitment plan to meet your specific needs. Online recruitment Using our online systems to post jobs and search CVs is an efficient way of connecting with thousands of our world-class students and alumni, free of charge, 24 hours a day. Online recruitment continues right throughout the year and is ideal for those companies who are recruiting on a one-off basis, for a just-in-time hire or for a lateral hire position. Once you have connected with our community online, you may decide to organise interviews, presentations and company visits at your own facilities. Or, if you would prefer to meet students at the School, we are always happy to host you on-campus so please feel free to get in touch with your Career Services contact and we can tailor this process to your needs. Autumn Term Programme Full-Time Recruitment Only The autumn term programme is targeted specifically at full-time and executive students from across all our programmes who are seeking permanent roles. When preparing for autumn term recruitment, it is advisable to bear in mind the diversity of your audience which will include: n Graduating full-time MBAs, Masters in Finance and Sloan Fellows Executive MBAs and part-time Masters in Finance Graduating International Exchange Programme students from our partner schools n n Spring Term Programme Full-Time and Internship Recruitment Full-time recruitment across all our graduating, part-time Masters in Finance and Executive MBA programmes continues in the spring. Our first year MBA students also get involved in recruitment activities in the spring term, kicking off with Corporate Partners Week at the start of January. It is worth noting that, while first-year students are not available for formal recruitment before January of their first year, recruiters can get to know them during the autumn term through student clubs. Please get in touch with your Career Services contact if you are interested in participating in any education activity related to first years in the autumn term. Summer Term Programme Full-Time and Internship Recruitment Recruitment activity remains strong throughout the summer term with many organisations taking advantage of the opportunity to snap up talent from among our graduating students. This is an ideal time to fill just-in-time and lateral hire positions and to recruit summer interns. On-campus recruitment Whether you are looking to fill full-time or internship positions, recruiting on campus is a great way to increase your visibility with our community and to educate your target audience on everything from your company culture to available opportunities. On-campus recruitment typically falls into two cycles – autumn term and spring term recruitment. However, we can work with you to coordinate on-campus activities on a rolling basis throughout the year and regularly work with recruiters on adhoc schedules in the summer term. Career Services A Guide to Recruitment “Try to get the right balance of corporate culture and recruitment information. We want to know about the company but we also want to know the specifics of the roles available.” What makes a great presentation? 10 Career Services | A Guide to Recruitment Online Recruitment at London Business School Getting to know our systems is at the heart of both our online and on-campus recruitment. We will work on the schedule and, in July, will be in touch to confirm both your presentation and interview date (For spring term recruitment, we will contact you in August to pick dates and will confirm them with you in September. All other timing for spring follows the autumn recruitment cycle). 2 Job Posting Post your job on Career Central at least one month before you come to campus to present. Nothing catches the eye of our students more than a great job so this will ensure a good turn-out and will also allow students to decide if they are genuinely interested in the opportunities available. Your job posting deadline should be at least two weeks before your interview is scheduled to allow students plenty of time to apply post-presentation and to prepare pre-interview. This is also a great time to check in with your Career Services contact about next steps in the process and to discuss your AV and catering requirements. 3 Presentation Presentations are normally 45 minute sessions, including Q&A, in a lecture theatre. They are a great opportunity for students to learn about your company and to be introduced to your representatives. To help you plan a great presentation, why not take a look at some of our students comments on what makes a presentation stand out. “The best presentations were interactive. I went to one where the presenter got the audience involved by asking us questions. Another one broke up the powerpoint with a video clip.” “Each staff member attending should introduce themselves during the presentation and should let us know their function and industry speciality. This makes it much easier for us to introduce ourselves during the networking session.” “A recent recruit, maybe even an alum, can tell an interesting story and we’ll automatically feel we can relate to someone who has been in our shoes.” 4 Networking A 45 minute networking session usually follows directly after your presentation in which students and alumni can chat informally with your team to ask questions, exchange business cards and get to know you better. Your Career Services contact will work with you to meet your catering requirements. Again, our students have great ideas on what makes an effective networking session: “Bring business cards so we can keep in touch with you after the presentation.” “Bring enough representatives to allow each student a chance to have a brief chat with them. Too few, and we’ll all be crowded round one or two people.” “Each company representative should be briefed on the actual opportunities available so they can answer our questions on the specific roles.” Career Services | A Guide to Recruitment 13 “An engaging speaker is key. If possible, bring a senior representative who has a talent for delivering messages.” What makes a great presentation? 5 Careers Fairs Careers Fairs provide a great opportunity to network informally with students and alumni. With over 300 attendees at the last Industry Careers Fair, they are also extremely popular with participants across all our programmes. Sector and programme specific fairs are held throughout the year, so there are plenty of chances to get involved. 6 Applications Students will apply to your job posting online via Career Central. Applications will be forwarded directly to you by the system. 7 Interviews First round interviews follow at least three weeks after your presentation date. You should finalise an interview shortlist at least one week before your scheduled interview date to allow our students enough time to sign up, research your organisation and prepare thoroughly for an interview. During this application period between your presentation and interviews, you should also discuss the format of your interview with your Career Services contact to finalise the number of rooms required. Career Services provides up to 12 dedicated interview rooms for your use and we will work with you to schedule interviews through Career Central. 8 Offers While we make every effort to be flexible to meet your needs, we have worked with the top 30 global business schools to establish some offer deadlines to ensure a fair and level playing field for all students and recruiters. Please see our Statement of Professional Standards for Recruiters for full details. 9 Accepted At the end of this process, we are confident you will have connected with the individual best-suited for your position and organisation. Throughout this process, your Career Services contact will work in partnership with you to ensure that every event, presentation and interview runs smoothly. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about audio visual equipment for your presentation, catering requirements for your networking session or interviews or any other concerns. In return, as you complete the recruitment process, we’d like to ask you to remember to keep your Career Services contact upto-date on the offers that you make and the students which accept them. 14 Career Services | A Guide to Recruitment Build your brand Whether you are new to recruiting at London Business School or have a strong history of hiring our graduates, many students and alumni will be learning about your organisation for the first time. There are many ways to make our community aware of the opportunities your organisation has to offer so, if you want to build a buzz, try following our ten top tips to optimise your recruiting effort and maximise your impact. 1. Complete a Career Central profile Ensure you have completed a comprehensive profile on Career Central, including a logo, company description and a flavour of your corporate culture. This is an effective and simple way to tell our students what they need to know, straight from the horse’s mouth. 2. Get involved in on-campus events Get involved in our on-campus events so our students and alumni can meet your representatives. There are many ways to participate, including: n presenting on campus as part of our on-campus recruitment cycle; “Booz & Company has come to rely on London Business School students to drive our business – valuing the international outlook, creativity and strong business sense that the School inspires. We recruit regularly on campus and look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with the School.” Kerstin Meyer, Booz & Company participating in a speaker panel (a recent general management panel featured representatives from Intel, Pepsico, BT and Danaher Corporation) hosting a breakfast meeting; “The Women in Business club organises events including on-campus recruitment breakfast events, company visits, CV workshops and mock interviews. The annual WIB conference is another platform for companies to advertise and attract talented women. Last year we had Lehman Brothers, American Express, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs as sponsors.” Joysy John, Women in Business Club president, MBA2008 coming to a Careers Fair; “In March, I attended the Executive Search Networking Evening which provides a unique opportunity to identify and meet a wide selection of key recruitment figures, specialising in experienced hire recruitment, in an informal and relaxed setting. It allowed me to make the initial contact, thereby making it easier to develop longer term relationships. Highly recommended.” Giles Jepson, Sloan 2008 sponsoring an event, for example, Sundowners; “Sundowners is London Business School’s largest and most popular weekly campus event and now a tradition on campus. Every Thursday, staff, students and alumni from all programmes come together in the campus bar to relax, catch up and network over a few drinks. Sundowners sponsorship is a unique way to leave a lasting impression with our community.” Nicola Blue, Sundowners Crew Member, MBA2008 n n n n If you have any other on-campus ideas, please do let us know and we will do all we can to accommodate you. Career Services | A Guide to Recruitment 15 The Career Services team is committed to supporting you in raising your profile at each stage of your recruitment strategy. We will: Advertise your organisation to students and alumni on Career Central and our Alumni Job Board and CV Database, our student and alumni intranet and in the weekly student newsletter Brief our Career Representatives for each programme with the latest news on opportunities at your organisation Commit to making every event, presentation and interview run smoothly and professionally for both you and our students and alumni Provide a link between you and our students and alumni, feeding back questions 3. Post a job Post your current positions on Career Central – nothing grabs a student’s attention quite like a great job opportunity which they can view on Career Central from anywhere in the world; “I was on exchange in Columbia University during the autumn term of my second year and Career Central was my main source of interaction with London Business School during my term abroad. I checked it regularly to make sure I wasn’t missing any job or second year project postings related to my industry.” Kirsten Westlake, MBA2008 7. Connect with the student clubs Connect with a targeted group of students through our 60+ professional student clubs – they are at the heart of the student community and offer your company a selection of networking opportunities. Ideas include: sponsoring Consulting Club crack-a-case sessions; working with the Finance Club to host a panel discussion; and partnering with the Industry Club to organise a career trek. Club contacts can also promote your organisation to their members and can help to find you a Company Champion, who will be dedicated to promoting your organisation and ensuring your events run smoothly. You can contact club leaders directly or ask your Career Services contact for an introduction; “As company champion for Tishman Speyer, I worked directly with the head recruiter to help set up their events and increase awareness among my classmates. I introduced the firm during the on-campus event and answered questions about the programme to market the firm to my peers.” Mike Hu, Tishman Speyer Company Champion, MBA2009 4. Feature on the School radio Take over the airwaves by appearing on London Business School radio. If you are recruiting on campus, with your permission, we will record your presentation for broadcast on our closed-community radio station – in particular, this is an ideal way to get your message across to our EMBA community who may not be able to attend daytime presentations, our global partners in Columbia, Hong Kong and Dubai and our students on exchange around the world; “Getting involved with London Business School radio is a fantastic opportunity to get your voice heard right across the School community. It allows members quick and easy access to information no matter where they are in the globe, greatly enhancing the ability of recruiters to connect with potential candidates and build strong relationships within the School.” Nick Ashley-Cooper, president of London Business School Radio Club, MBA 2008 8. Become a Corporate Partner An excellent way of ensuring that you build a lasting engagement with London Business School. As a partner, you benefit from early recruitment access to our students, access to the School’s global business networks and invitations to exclusive School and student events. 9. Get your alumni involved Encourage your alumni to get involved with on-campus recruitment by attending presentations, careers fairs and networking events – our students feel an instant connection with someone who has been in their shoes; “The informal environment in the Industry Careers Fair helped me evaluate a fit between what I was looking for and what a potential recruiter had to offer, and opened up several job leads. It also provided a great opportunity to re-connect with some Sloan alumni while discussing potential positions.” Sachin Agarwal, Sloan 2008 5. Organise a company trek Work with Career Services or one of our student clubs to organise a company trek – a great chance to invite students and alumni to your offices to let them sample the atmosphere and network with your team first-hand. 6. Visit Alumni Job Board and CV Database Visit our Alumni Job Board and CV Database to connect with our alumni community of over 28,000. Our Alumni Job Board allows you to target alumni with your job opportunities, free of charge.
