Rogers TV is perfect for students training for careers in media arts, communications, journalism,
television and video production. We are committed to quality, relevant local programming and
have won awards in Regional and National Competitions. We are looking for keen,
knowledgeable, reliable students to do co-op with Rogers TV Dufferin-Peel.

Students applying for these placements:

1.       Only 4-Credit Co-op Students can apply to positions in studio and mobile production. As
                  well, afternoon 2 credit students and 4 credit students can apply to the
                  administrative position.
2.       Students must be from a semestered school as students are needed on a daily basis.
3.       Preference will be given to students with experience or familiarity in the positions outlined.
4.       Not all television positions are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some hours will include evening hours
         which are subject to change based on Rogers TV programming.
5.       Mobile production students must provide their own transportation to Hershey Centre,
         Powerade Centre or other mobile production locations.
6.       All positions are out of Rogers TV, 3573 Wolfedale Road, Mississauga.
7.       Students must submit their application package completed in full including start and end
         dates and hours per week.
8.       Rogers TV equipment is NOT available for personal use.
9.       Personal electronic devices are not to be on in the studio or during mobile production due
         to the disturbance to the audio frequency.

1.       PRODUCTION CREW – 5 positions

This position has the student split the week between the studio and editing. In the studio they
will learn to operate the teleprompter, studio camera, graphics, audio, VTR and phone operator.
With editing they will learn to edit ape to tape (linear) editing for our daily news program First
Local.

The hours will vary based on our program schedule. These hours are subject to change

         Monday ~ Editing 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
         Tuesday ~ Studio 2:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
         Wednesday ~ Studio 12:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
         Thursday ~ Studio 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
         Friday ~ Editing 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
2.    ADMINISTRATION AND STUDIO ASSISTANT – 1 – four-credit and 1 two credit
         position

 The student will be updating the community boards on the website, provide guest relations for our
 daytime show, manage and process all dub requests, as well as assist in reception and filing.

 The student must have: excellent time management skills, able to multi-task and work independently,
 have strong oral and written communication, good interpersonal and listening skills, and proficient in
 Word, Excel and email. They need to be flexible and co-operative when changes in duties and
 responsibilities arise.

 They will be working directly with the station manager and administration assistant.

 The hours are Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

 3.     FIRST LOCAL ASSIGNMENT EDITOR ASSISTANT - 2 positions

 The student will be working alongside the associate producer at the First Local assignment desk. They
 will be assisting in the writing, gathering and researching of potential story ideas, following up with
 guests and possible interviews. The student will be responsible for fact-checking and proofreading some
 stories. They should have solid writing skills, including the use of proper spelling and grammar, attention
 to detail, knowledge about the Region of Peel – Mississauga and Brampton, positive attitude, team player,
 ability to met deadlines and work under pressure of a news room. Professional telephone manner is
 mandatory to this position.

 The hours are Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.


 4.      MOBILE PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS – 6 positions
 In this position the students will assist Mobile Producer on set-up and tear down for all Mobile
 Productions. This position requires heavy lifting. The student must be interested in all aspects
 of Television Production (Camera, Editing, Audio and Graphics). The students must be willing
 to do
 longer hours in one day but fewer days in a week. Student must be safety conscious. Preference
 will be given to students who have successfully completed related technology courses.
 The hours are varied throughout the week and weekends.
 Students must travel to Hershey Centre , Powerade Centre and other mobile production
 locations.

 As a Rogers TV co-op student, your first task will be a team project to create an exciting promo
 for the Rogers TV Studio. The promo video should be no longer than 2 minutes in length and
 will give others the chance to see why volunteering with the Rogers TV Studio is a great
 opportunity and start in the television industry. Your job will be to highlight the opportunities
 the Rogers TV Studio offers.
To complete the project, you have the opportunity to work with the other co-op students in
studio/editing and will have access to video equipment if required, through your producer.

Your promo not only highlights your skills but can be used as a portfolio project in the future.
