Dear Sirs,
It is my privilege and honor to nominate Jody Williams for the Nobel
Peace Prize, because she works to help others instead of herself. She devotes
her time to banning the use of anti-personnel landmines for the safety of
millions. She could achieve what a dozen nations and the UN could not do.
Jody Williams chose to work on the landmine issue because she wanted to
do something that would have global reach and impact.
She wanted to ban landmines because once the soldiers go home they take
their guns with them, but leave the landmines which continue to harm and
sometimes kill civilians for years to come. One of the amazing things about
her is that she is committed and doesn’t give up on banning landmines.
One of the biggest challenges for her has been that the world’s
governments thought that it was a nice thought, but would remain just that.
In the end she has accomplished banning landmines without the
government’s help. Instead she did what she thought was right, no matter
what the government thought. These are just a few of the reasons why
Jody Williams should be a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Sincerely,
Tommy
