No one came before the board to speak.
A. West Cedar and Irving- Roger Wilcox, Principal
Roger Wilcox presented a PowerPoint on the resources provided by the awarding of the Acer
grant. Several technology tools were shown including Symbaloo, Edmodo, WSR wiki, and
VoiceThreads to name a few.
A. Approve Minutes
The board approved the minutes from our last meeting held on January 3rd.
A. First Reading: Board Policies 407.1 – 414.9 - Employees
B. Equity Changes in Board Policies and Handbooks
The Board approved the Equity Statement necessary for current notices for all policies and

The board approved the above requests for open enrollment. Note all are for next school year.
D. DECA Trip Request
The Board approved this year’s DECA trip to be held in Orlando April 29-May 4th.
Approximately 10 students plus advisor and chaperones will attend.
E. Approve the purchase of house and property at 306 16th St. SW
The Board approved the purchase of the house and property at 306 16th St. SW. This acquisition
will allow greater flexibility in providing a safer route for kids and vehicles going to the new
middle school. The purchase price of the property is $140,000 and possession will be in late
February. The preliminary plan is to sell the house using a bid process to be moved.
F. Professional Learning Community schedule for 2011-2012
Megan Slessor and Karen Erhardt were present to inform the board reasons behind
recommendations for next year’s early dismissal schedule. It was noted classes will be dismissed
each Wednesday next year to provide time for teacher collaboration, planning, and
implementation of newly formed student resources.
G. Curricular addition request
The Board approved a new high school Social Studies class for the next school year. The class,
Contemporary Issues will involve Social Studies, Geography, and Current Events. This course
will assist in meeting the Iowa CORE standards and will allow students more access to resources
on global issues both economic and geographic.

The Board approved the above resignation.
A. Claims and Accounts
The Board approved the claims and accounts for the current month. They noted the negative
balance of the General Fund due to loss of state aid revenue and asked about corrective steps.
Superintendent Vyverberg explained the steps being taken include staffing cuts, recommendation
for increased cash reserve receipts, and budget cuts for both this year and next. The Board will
receive recommendations on staffing cuts at the March Board meeting. Superintendent
Vyverberg indicated all staff members that will be impacted by the recommendations have been

Superintendent Vyverberg informed the board of the upcoming meeting with Community
Housing Initiatives representatives and investors. There is still interest on their part to discuss
the possible future use of the junior high building for housing.
Set Next Meeting Date and Location
The next monthly board meeting will be Monday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office.
The Board entered into a closed session to discuss negotiation strategy. They came out of the
closed session and adjourned the meeting.
