Dear Parent:

I am delighted that your child is in my Principles of Human Services class this year. With your

encouragement, your child will participate in and enjoy many exciting and rewarding experiences this year.

SUPPLY FEE: $30 per year payable by cash or check during the first six weeks of class. (Please make check

payable to MDJH.) This money covers various sewing and craft supplies such as needles, scissors, patterns,

sewing machine repairs, pins, craft/art supplies, polyfil for pillows and food for labs.

GRADING POLICY: 15% Homework; 30 Daily/Quizzes; 55% Projects/Tests

Projects will be graded on work completed daily. At the end of the project a project grade will be given

on quality of work. Work will be expected on the due date. Sufficient time is allowed so that one or

two days of absence should not make a project late. I am here every afternoon until 3:10 if your student

falls behind and needs to catch up on work.

CLASS POLICY: In addition to complying with the McDonald JHS Discipline Plan, these are my expectations

for students in class:

Follow Directions

Be in your seat with supplies ready for use when bell rings

Raise your hand to speak or for permission to leave your seat

Keep hands, feet, objects and discourteous remarks to yourself

Show respect to fellow students, guests, and the teacher at all times

DISCIPLINE CONSEQUENCES: Kept daily. Detentions on Tuesdays and Thursdays

1st offense Warning

nd

2 offense 30 minute after school detention. Parent notified. Discipline record kept.

3rd offense 45 minute after school detention. Parent notified. Discipline record kept. Student

receives an “N” in conduct

4th offense Office referral. Discipline record kept. Students receives a “U” in conduct.

SEVERE CLAUSE: Fighting, vandalism, defying a teacher, or stopping the rest of the class from functioning:

Immediately sent to principal and discipline record kept.

Please pay particular attention in the student handbook to the requirement for restitution. Students will be

working with expensive equipment. They will be responsible for replacement cost of any item they

break or damage through improper use, vandalism or carelessness.

Finally, I want you to know that one of my goals this year is to keep the line of communication open with you.

Please do not hesitate to call me at school. I am available to talk to you every day either during my conference

at 9:06 - 9:52 or after school from 2:35 – 3:10. Thank you for your support and the opportunity to work with

your child.

Sincerely,

Wanda LaRochelle

Family and Consumer Science Teacher
