A RESOLUTION paying tribute to Donnie McGehee and adjourning the Senate in
his honor.
WHEREAS, Donnie McGehee loves music and has since he can remember. For 34
years he has been playing and singing, bringing joy and pleasure to the people of Todd
County; and
WHEREAS, with the help of his cousin and songwriting partner, Neeley Stratton,
Donnie McGehee has entertained countless residents of Daysville, Allegre, and
Kirkmansville with old time country favorites mixed with a healthy dose of songs he and
Neeley have written; and
WHEREAS, Donnie's voice has been described as sounding like a "young George
Jones," and his songs have been inspired by events that occurred in northern Todd County
in the last 50 years. He has written about love, loss, hard work, heaven, playing music,
bologna and cheese sandwiches, tobacco spit stains, and the wild wind that passes twixt
the hills of Allegre; and
WHEREAS, Donnie McGehee has been battling diabetes for 25 years and is now
starting dialysis three times a week for his failing kidneys. Donnie worries about being
able to continue his music as much as he does about his medical condition. Both he and
his many fans who come to hear him play every Friday night at Helen's Place in
Kirkmansville are hoping that he can continue singing and playing; and
WHEREAS, Donnie not only has confided that music is his life, but also that it is
very important to him that his fans have a good time. After a capacity crowd recently
came to Helen's Place to hear him, he sighed, shook his head, and then smiled and said,
"Thank ya'll. When ya'll are having a good time, then I'm having a good time";
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky:
Section 1. The Senate expresses its gratitude to Donnie McGehee for sharing

his love and gift of music with countless individuals throughout the Commonwealth.
Section 2. The Senate extends its best wishes to Donnie McGehee for improved
health and wishes him many more years of singing, playing, and writing music for his
many fans to enjoy.
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Donnie
McGehee.
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to Mr. Donnie McGehee, P. O. Box 81, Crofton, Kentucky 42217.
