A RESOLUTION recognizing April as Women's Health Month.
WHEREAS, Women's Health Month is a time dedicated to improving the health
and well-being of women in Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, the Kentucky Department for Public Health recognizes that taking
even small steps to improve one's health can result in significant results and is, therefore,
taking special care to educate women on how to live healthier lifestyles and make wiser
decisions based upon their individual backgrounds and risk factors. Health promotion,
disease prevention, and treatment are topics which are being given special attention; and
WHEREAS, during the month of April, the Kentucky Department for Public Health
encourages families, communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and
other groups to work together to celebrate the extraordinary progress in women's health;
to bring attention to and create understanding of women's health issues; to encourage
women to get regular check-ups; to educate women about steps they can take to improve
their physical and mental health and prevent disease; to identify issues that affect
women's health; to develop and implement programs to address the identified issues; to
serve as a source of information regarding women's health; and to act as an advocate for
women's health concerns within state government and throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, raising awareness about the role women can play in prevention,
treatment, and educating others will result in better health in their families and will lead
to improvements throughout the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the
Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives recognizes April 2008 as Women's
Health Month and applauds all women who take an active role in carrying out the goals of
educating others about healthier lifestyles, prevention, and treatment.
Section 2. The House of Representatives expresses its gratitude to the Kentucky

Department for Public Health for its dedication and efforts to promote awareness of ways
women can actively take steps to improve their health and urges the citizens of the
Commonwealth to participate in all planned activities for promotion of better health.
