Introduction
1.     Sainik Schools are fully residential schools for boys providing Public School Education of a high standard
       with a military bias. These All-India institutions follow uniform curriculum, syllabus and pattern of education,
       examination and selection with common aim and objectives.
Aim
2.     The aim of the Sainik School is to prepare boys academically, mentally, physically and morally for entry
       into the National Defence Academy for appointment as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces of the
       country and for producing affective citizens for our nation.

4.     Sainik School, Bhubaneswar is situated on Nandan Kanan Road. It has a sprawling green campus of
       about 230 acres and enjoys a healthy and equitable climate. The city bus, taxis and autorickshaw ply to
       the School campus regularly.

Management and Control
5.     All the Sainik Schools are run by the Sainik School Society, an autonomous body under the Ministry of
       Defence, New Delhi. The administration of the School vests with autonomous Board of Governors. The
       Raksha Mantri is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Besides, each school has a Local Board of
       Administration for general administrative control.
Service Personnel
6. (a) The three Service officers viz. Principal, Headmaster and Registrar are deputed from the Defence
       Services. Qualified and experienced personnel with aptitude for public school works are employed in the
       school. School also has NCC and PT staff drawn from the Army.
  (b)    The School has competent academic and administrative staff to look after academic and physical growth
         of boys.
Accommodation and Messing
7.       The boys are billeted in 10 hostels. Each hostel has 5 dormitories which are sufficient to accommodate on
         an average 60 boys per hostel. The number of Cadets in each Hostel can be varied by the school. All
         Class VI (freshers) boys stay together in one house called holding house. Class VII and Class VIII boys
         stay together in four hostels and Class IX to Class XII boys are presently distributed in each of the other
         five hostels. However, the grouping can be changed at any time.
8.       The school provides adequate messing facilities, both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian. The menu is fixed
         by the boys through a Mess Committee. The mess is well equipped and all boys dine together. The Mess
         is managed by a Mess Manager and a sufficient number of staff to look into the running of the mess.
Infirmary
9.       The School has 10 bedded Infirmary with a part time Medical Officer, who is assisted by a Residential
         Pharmacist and a Medical Attendant. Routine medical consultation is available to students free of cost in
         the School. The cost of medicines and nursing cost is borne by the cadet. Serious cases requiring
         specialist attention and prolonged hospitalisation are referred to Capital Hospital / Kar Clinic & Nurshing
         Home. The cost of treatment in the civil hospitals including cost of all medicines is to be borne by the
         parents.
Recreation
10.      Each hostel is equipped with a colour television Indoor games facilities are also available to the boys in
         each hostel as well as a centralised Multi-Gymnasium.
Indemnity
11.      While all the precautions are taken, the school does not undertake any responsibility for injuries, accidents,
         sickness or resultant consequences arising out of boys' participation in activities in or outside the school.
         All expenses required for treatment of such cases are borne by parents/guardians. An undertaking has
         been incorporated in the agreement to be signed by the parents/guardians at the time of admission of their
         wards.
Vacation and Leave
12.      Students are granted vacations not exceeding 70 days in a year. Generally it is 40 days in Summer (May-
         June) and 30 days in Autumn (October-November). The vacation is planned by the school and can change
         without prior notice. Vacations may also be combined to suit the needs of training.
13. (a) As a rule no leave is permitted during the academic session. However in exceptional cases of emergency,
         leave may be granted on written request from the parents only. The parents should not approach the
         school unnecessarily for silly reasons. No night off leave prior to routine holidays or parent days will be
         granted. Leave will be granted only in the following circumstances : (a) Death of immediate family
         members (b) Marriage of own brother / sister.
    (b) For all other cases and for overstayal of leave a fine of Rs.100/- per day will be levied.
Visit of Parents / Guardians
14.      School Office - Between 1000 Hrs - 1200 Hrs. (on Monday and Thursday) for official work only. They will
         not be permitted to meet their wards.
         Parents' day - 2nd and 4th Sunday of the Month (between 0830 Hrs. to 1700 Hrs.) Visit on other days is
         not permitted.
         Class VI, VII & VIII - local guardians are to sign booking in/out register accordingly while booking in/out.
         (No parent is permitted to enter the Hostel beyond the students corner on any day.) Vehicles are permitted
         only upto the school gate.
15.      Senior students are permitted to travel independently. Junior boys (VI, VII & VIII) are required to be picked
         up from the School by their parents / guardians. Boys not collected within 24 hours from the
         commencement of the vacation will be booked out at the risk of their parents/guardians.
Overstayal of leave/absence
16.      Students are liable to be withdrawn for persistent overstayal/absence as per rules. Such acts debar
         students from getting Government Scholarship. Late arrival fine of Rs.100/- per day will be imposed if boys
         come late after vacation.
Curriculum
17.      Sainik School, Bhubaneswar is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and
         provides uniform curriculum from Class VI (Science steam) including Art, Craft and Computer Education
         as prescribed by it.
Capacity
18.      The School is designed for a Boarder strength of approximately 600 boys in seven classes-VI to XII.
         Generally 3 sections per class from VI to class X and 3 sections per Class at +2 level are organised.
Co-curricular Activities
19.    The School aims at integrated personality development. Physical Training, N.C.C, Sports and Games,
       hobbies are part of the curriculum. All efforts are made to develop good habits, conversational abilities and
       disciplined life.
Communication Skills
20.    (a)Since we prepare boys for NDA and the medium of instruction is English, all efforts are made to
       inculcate correct English speaking abilities among all cadets. In this we seek co-operation from the parents
       also.

School Session
20.     (b)The academic session of the School extends from 01 April to 31 March of the ensuing year.
Public Examination
21      (a)All - India Secondary School Examination (CBSE) at the end of Class X.
        (b)All - India Senior School Certificate Examination (CBSE) at the end of Class XII.
        (c)Union Public Service Commission Entrance Examination for admission of boys to the National Defence
        Academy at XII class.
Note : Students passing the All-India Secondary School Examination (CBSE) (Class X) and obtaining prescribed
        percentage are only eligible to continue in the Senior School Courses (Classes XI-XII) in this school as per
        the policy laid down by the Sainik Schools Society.
School Examination and Periodical Assessment
22.     With a view to ensue regular progress in studies, the students are assessed on the basis of two monthly
        tests and two terminal tests and Annual Examination. The performance in all the examinations is taken into
        account for annual assessment at the end of the year and students obtaining the qualifying grde i.e. 40%
        in each subject and 50% in aggregate are granted promotion. However scholarship holders are to obtain
        45% in each subject and 55% in aggregate marks to retain scholarship which is relaxed for SC/ST
        categories.
Detentions
23.     A one time detention is allowed during the orientation period of first 3 years in the school either in Class VI
        or in Class VII or in Class VIII subject to availability of scholarship/payment of fee by parents.
Withdrawal
24.     The Principal is empowered to order withdrawal of any student from the school on the following grounds :
        (a) On poor academic performance at the end of the year in Class VI to IX and XI.
        (b) For unauthorized/prolonged absence from the School.
        (c) On disciplinary grounds at any time without assigning or giving any notice.
        (d) For non payment of prescribed school fees and allied charges.
        (e) On medical grounds if the boy is found medically unfit at any stage for admission to the National
             Defence Academy or for further continuance in the Sainik School by the competent medical authority.
Withdrawals by parents / legal guardians
25.     All boys are admitted to the School on an understanding that they will remain in the School for the entire
        course. In case the parent wants to withdraw his son on any account, including due to revision of
        fees/scholarship, he must give a notice of withdrawal in writing to the Principal at least two months
        before the commencement of the following term i.e. by 31st Jan. This will be applicable to both Full
        Fee Paying students and Scholarship holders. Incase a boy is withdrawn by the parent voluntarily during
        mid-term, fee will be charged up to the end of academic session. Failure to give notice for withdrawal at
        least two months before the commencement of following term will entail forfeiture of Caution Money.
        Parents of boys who are in receipt of Scholarship can withdraw them only after refund of the total amount
        of the Scholarship enjoyed by the cadet during his stay in the school.

27.       Admissions are open to Class-VI & IX only. ADMISSIONS ARE MADE STRICTLY ON MERIT during
          March/April for Class VI & IX.
28.       Only BOYS who are more than 10 years and less than 11 years of age as on 1st July of the year of
          admission are eligible for admission to Class-VI. Only BOYS who are more than 13 years and less than 14
          years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission are eligible for Class-IX. A boy can appear in the
          Entrance Examination ONCE only. Boys who have appeared earlier are NOT eligible to apply again. This
          rule is not relaxable in any case.
29.       Medical standard will be as per one prescribed for NDA admission.
30.       Boys seeking admission to Sainik Schools are required to qualify in an All-India Entrance Examination for
          VI & IX. The Examination is held in various centres including Sainik Schools all over the country in the
          month of January. Wide publicity is given through News Papers, Radio Broadcast by the All-India Radio
          Stations as well as Doordarshan, inviting applications.
31.       Candidates have the option to take the examination in Regional Indian Language in Orissa State, the
          Entrance Examination is conducted by Sainik School Bhubaneswar in the School itself and in various other
          locations of the State depending on number of applications in English, Oriya and Hindi mediums only.
          Those desirous of taking the test in other languages are advised to apply to the Sainik School in the
          respective region. For class IX question paper will in English only.
32.       The firm date and programme of examination with necessary instructions will be communicated to the
          parents of the applicants well in advance.
33.       Parents desirous of obtaining their wards mark list including interview marks can get by paying Rs.50/- by
          DD after completion of admission.
34.       Once admitted, transfer of cadets from one Sainik School to other is not permitted.
Fee
35.       All fee/dues are payable in advance. Only tuition fees can be paid either by yearly or half-yearly or
          quarterly installments. Late payment charges will be imposed on late payment of fee/dues for each day
          from due dates to date of deposit. Fee will be charged for whole year even if a cadet joins late.

           There will be 5 to 10% increase of fees and diet charges at the commencement of academic year.
      (ii) Parents are to note that they will have to pay Full Fee as mentioned above irrespective of their income
           status and Scholarship if any received based on their income duly verified, which will be adjusted for next
           year.
    (iii) Due dates to deposit the school fee.

    (iv) Late payment charges will be imposed on late payment of yearly, half yearly and quarterly fees / dues by
          due date @Rs.5/- per day from the last date given. Please ensure that your Bank Draft, if sent by post, is
          posted well in advance so as to reach the school before the due date. Also, keep a photocopy of the draft
          sent, for future queries, if any.
    (v) Fee/dues are accepted only in the form of Crossed Bank Draft/Banker's cheque of Nationalised Banks
          preferably on Union Bank of India drawn in favour of Principal, Sainik School, Bhubaneswar, payable at
          Bhubaneswar by post. Please mention the name of the Cdt School No. & Class on the reverse of the Bank
          Draft for easy reference. Parents may also deposit the fee in the form of cash / draft in UBI, CS Pur Branch,
          Deposit slip is available with the school.
    (vi) In case the parent wants to withdraw his son on any account he must give a notice of withdrawal in writing
          to the Principal, atleast two months before the commencement of the following term i.e. on or before 31st
          January of the same year. Failure to give this notice will entail forfeiture of caution money. Once opted for
          withdrawal no permission will be granted for rejoining.
    (vii) If a student is withdrawn by the parent voluntarily at any time during the term fee will be charged upto the
          end of that academic session.
36.       Fees should be sent only by means of A/c payee Bank Draft/ Banker's Cheque of Nationalised Bank
          preferably on UBI drawn in favour of Principal, Sainik School Bhubaneswar payable at Bhubaneswar.
          Parents may deposit the fees in Union Bank of India, Chandrasekharpur Branch in Sainik School's deposit
          slip available with the School without paying the draft charges. Cheques/Cash are not acceptable at
          School's Accounts Section. Kindly mention the Name, School Number and class on the reverse of the
          Bank Draft.
Govt. of Orissa Scholarship + Central Share
37. The Govt. of Orissa Scholarship is as under.

Ministry of Defence Scholarship & Reservation
38.       25% of seats are reserved for children of Defence personnel/Ex-Servicemen. Unfilled vacancies in 25%
          quota will be alloted to children of Coast Guard personnel.

        account and whatever balance is left will be refunded on closing of account after withdrawal of the cadet.
        2. Parents of cdet availing any type of scholarship are required to submit Fresh Income certificate every
        year at the time of depositing first instalment of fees. The scholarship will be awarded only on receipt of
        valid income certificate and availability of grant from the Government. Non submission of the same will
        entail the cadet to be treated as FFP.
        3. GOVT. OF INDIA (MIN OF DEF.) PROVIDES AN APPROX AMOUNT OF RS.10,500/- EVERY YEAR
        TO STUDENTS OF ALL CATEGORIES IRRESPECTIVE OF STATUS TOWARDS THE END OF
        ACADEMIC YEAR.
Reservation for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe
39.     15% of seats are reserved for Schedule Caste and 7.5% for Schedule Tribe boys of the State. SC/ST boys
        of Orissa belonging to low income groups should apply through the Harijan and Tribal Welfare Department
        for financial assistance under State Govt. rules.
Instructions for filling and submission of Application forms
40.     Parents/Guardians are warned to furnish only the facts and ensure that no information required to be given,
        is concealed to the best of their knowledge and belief. Any attempt to conceal information will result in
        cancellation of candidature. No scholarship will be awarded where incomplete/wrong details regarding
        income of parents is given.
41.     Please note that :
    (a) Candidates who attain the prescribed age as on 1st July of the year of admission only need apply.
        Application of underage/overage boys will be rejected. The age prescribed is not relaxable in any case.
    (b) All entries in the application from and its attachments should be filled neatly and clearly in BOLD CAPITAL
        LETTERS. No column should be left blank. If there are no particulars to be filled in, write the word "NIL" or
        "N/A". Application not fulfilling the prescribed requirements or found incomplete/incorrectly filled will be
        rejected summarily and no correspondence on the subject will entertained.
    (c) Application on typed manuscript forms will not be accepted. Documents/Certificate sent along with the
        application form will not be returned.
    (d) The date of birth of the candidate as per School records should be shown in the application form and admit
        cards attached under the seal and signature of the Headmaster/Principal of the School where the
        candidate is studying/last studied. In case of boys who have not attended any school so far, admit cards
        attested under the seal and signature of a gazetted officer will be enclosed with the application together
        with a photocopy of birth certificate as per Municipality birth record duly attested by a gazetted officer. For
        children of Defence Personnel, Coast Guard Personnel, Ex-Service personnel, the date of birth certificate
        as recorded in the sheet rolls/service records in the Record Office should be furnished. Photocopy of DO
        Part II / POR / Enrolment from extract from Sheet roll etc. are required.
    (e) The application is to be signed by the father in the space marked "signature of parent" and the candidate is
        to sign in the Indentification/Admit Card. If father isnot alive, the mother should sign. The legal guardian
        may sign the application if father and mother are not alive.
    (f) The application with its attachments should invariably reach the school before the closing date specified in
        the advertisement. Application 'received after the last date and or without the relevant
        documents/certificates will not be entertained. The School accepts no responsibility for any delay in the
        receipt of prospectus/application form and no refund will be made on this account under any
        circumstances.
    (g) Once date of birth, SC/ST Category and domicile certificates are furnished by the parents/legal guardians
        and accepted by the sainik school authorities, no subsequent change is permissible.
    (h) Candidate who appeared earlier in the entrance examination for the particular class are not eligible to
        apply again.
    (i) Original SC/ST certificates submitted at the time of admission will not be returned as it is part of admission
        document.
    (j) Total income from all sources declared by the parents is subject to verification by the State Government.
        Government employees should give details of their income from all sources like pay and allowances plus
        income from other sources, if any.
    (k) Full permanent address and the place of domicile must be shown clearly in the (column) for consideration
        of the award of State Scholarship, if admissible.
   (l)  Request for change of centre of examination or change in medium of question papers will not be
        entertained after the last date for receipt of applications.
    (m) The candidate will not be admitted to the examination, medical examination, interview and finally for
        admission, if selected, in the absence of the Admit Card with the Photograph issued by the school.
    n) If one belongs to Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe community/subcaste or Schedule Caste it has to be
        clearly mentioned. The claim is to be supported by a "Caste Certificate" issued by the competent authority.
        In the absence of such certificate the candidate will be considered under general category only.
42.     Parent/legal guardian is to scrutinise the completed application from and submit the same with the
        following documents to the Principal, Sainik School Bhubaneswar-751005 at the school office during
        working hours or send by Registered post.
    (a) Identification certificate and Admit Card.
    (b) SC/ST certificate properly signed and stamped/sealed by the competent authority.
    (c) Acknowledgement Card after writing your postal address correctly and affixing Rs.3/- postage stamp.
    (d) A service certificate from the CO in case the father of the candidate is serving in Defence forces.
                                                           OR
        An attested copy of the discharge certificate if father is an ex-serviceman.
    (e) In case a candidate has not attended any school upto Class-V and seeking admission to Class-VI in this
        school, an extract from the register of births maintained by the Municipal Committee/Board/Corporation
        concerned will be enclosed.
    (f) For admission to Class-IX, the boys must be studying in a Recognised school.
Last date of application
43.     The date of issue of Prospectus-cum-Application and last date for receipt of application by Sainik School
        Bhubaneswar are notified through advertisement every year in the News papers.
44.     Applications received incomplete or after the prescribed date will be rejected.
45.     IMPORTANT NOTES
    (a) A parent who is willing to admit his son in other Sainik School in case the candidate is qualified but low in
        merit in entrance examinations is to give an undertaking, that he is willing to admit his son as full fee
        paying student in other Sainik School as at Serial No.15 of the Application Form :
        (i) Name of the Sainik School of 1st Choice.
        (ii) Name of the Sainik School of 2nd Choice.
        (iii) Name of the Sainik School of 3rd Choice.
        No transfer from any other Sainik School to Sainik School Bhubaneswar and vice versa is permissible.
    (b) Parents of the students of this school are requested to appreciate the difficulties of the school and those of
        state Govt. Under the circumstances we are doing our best. Please admit your son only after checking all
        facilities to avoid any embarrassment at later stage.

                                                     CAUTION
1. Please note that Sainik School Bhubaneswar has not appointed any agency or middleman to get your
    admission or scholarships.

4. Admission is made, purely on merit and scholarship is given based on legal documents submitted by you.

5. Documents are subject to verification. Submission of false documents or concealing any information regarding
candidate for obtaining Govt. scholarship will result in rejection of admission and withdrawal of student at any stage

Entrance examination 2008 will be conducted at the following centers for class vi candidates :
(a)      Sainik school, Bhubaneswar
(b)      Khallikote college, Berhampur
(c)      FM college, Balasore
(d)      Govt. Science college Rourkela
However, entrance examination for class ix admissions will be conducted at Bhubaneswar centre only. Applicants
to note the above and fill the application forms regarding choice of centres accordingly.
