The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 in the Library at
Antioch Community High School. Mr. Phillip A. Delany, President, presided over the meeting, calling it
to order at 7:00 p.m.

INFORMATION, DISCUSSION, ACTION

PRESENTATIONS

Dr. David Moyer, Assistant Superintendent, presented information to the Board on the District’s
Common Assessments. He shared graphs which showed the 2007 Semester 1 Common Assessment
results, curriculum course mapping, demographic breakdowns, and composite averages. He explained
the District’s future plans which include continuing to increase the number of courses that are mapped
and have common assessments, continuing to become more refined in analyzing data, and ensuring test
questions are meaningful and of high quality.

Report from the Business Office

Ms. Nolde reported that the ACHS baseball backstop had been installed, earlier than was anticipated.
She also answered a question from the January 24 Board meeting by saying the roof sections that needed
replacing were from the 1970 addition.

Student Fees for 2008-09

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board approve the student fee schedule for the 2008-09 school year as presented
in Exhibit VI (attached). Second by Mrs. McGrath.

Second Reading – Policy Recommendations

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board adopt the following policies as recommended by the Superintendent:
415.01 – Purchases; 450.08-AP – Hazardous and Infectious Materials; 465.09 – Post-Trip Inspection
Policy for School Buses; 520.18 – Discipline; 605 – School Year Calendar and Day; 620.03 –
Curriculum Content; 655.11 – Credit for Continuing Education Courses; and 725 – Student Discipline.
Second by Mrs. Heneberry.

First Reading – Policy Recommendations

Dr. Sabatino reviewed with Board members the recommended revisions to Policy 101 – Attendance
Areas, and the Board requested a change in wording which would better define the areas within the
Lakes attendance area. The policy, with the change in wording, will be presented for second reading and
adoption at the February 21, 2008 meeting.

2007-08 Illinois State Per Capita Grant Report from the Library

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board accept the 2007-08 Illinois State Per Capita Grant Report from the
Library, as recommended. Second by Mrs. Jacobs.

Reply to Lindenhurst Park District

Dr. Sabatino reviewed the draft letter he had written in response to the Lindenhurst Park District’s
proposal for District 117 to become a partner in the construction of an aquatic center. The Board
approved the letter and requested it be sent to the Lindenhurst Park District.

Field Trip Request

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board approve as recommended the request from Mike Nekritz for a field trip for
students in the Seminars for Scholars Program to travel to New Orleans from March 2-4, 2008 to help
establish this program in a few New Orleans schools. Second by Mrs. McGrath.

Rental Request

Antioch Community High School

Mrs. Jacobs moved the following requests for use of facilities be approved as recommended: (1) Village
of Antioch Parks and Recreation Department for the Antioch Queens Pageant on June 17, 19, and 21; (2)
Lakes Area Band for rehearsal and a Community Band Concert on March 8 and 10; and (3) the
Gymnastics Zone for a gymnastics show on April 27, 2008. Second by Mrs. McGrath.

Lakes Community High School

Mrs. Jacobs moved the Board approve the request for use of facilities from Lindenhurst-Lake Villa
Chamber of Commerce for a Spring Fest Expo on March 27-30, 2008, as recommended. Second by Mrs.
McGrath.

ACHS Update – Mr. Nekritz

Mr. Nekritz updated Board members on the events and happenings at Antioch Community High School,
including the following: 145 students are taking the ACT prep course; PSAE plans are coming together;
the Cheerleaders took fourth in State; Dance team qualified for State; the 8th Grade Open House had an
enormous turnout; Black History Month activities were starting; the canned food drive was successful;
and Summer in Winter Week was planned for the last week in February.

Motion to Enter Closed Session

At 7:58.m. Mr. Sobczak moved the Board enter into Closed Session to discuss the following exceptions
to the Open Meetings Act: (a) Employment – Section 2(c)(1): The hiring, firing, compensation, discipline
and performance of specific employees; and (b) School Issues – Section 2(c)(10): Other matters relating
to individual students. Second by Mrs. Biel.

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board grant the request of Christina Foss for a leave of absence to include the
entire first semester of the 2008-09 school year as recommended by the Superintendent. Second by Mrs.
Biel.

Resolution – Employee 2008-A

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board approve the Notice to Remedy Resolution – Employee 2008-A as
recommended by the Superintendent. Second by Mrs. McGrath.

Student 2007/08-6A – Expulsion Abeyance

Mr. Sobczak moved the Board impose the expulsion of Student 2007/08-6A as recommended by the
Principal and that such expulsion be held in abeyance subject to the execution of the conditions set forth
in the Agreement with the student and parents. Second by Mrs. McGrath.
