Comal ISD 2010-2011 History Fair Schedule and Due Dates-7th and 8th Grade
Sept. 1 Campus History Fair Coaches Meeting at Support Services. 4:30pm
Sept. 7-Oct. 8 7th grade students will have a minimum of 3 class days and 8th grade students will have
2 class days devoted to History Fair.
Sept. 7-10 Project and topic are discussed, timeline given, and project categories are explained.
Students begin to explore potential topics based on theme: Debate and Diplomacy in
History: Successes, Failures, and Consequences. Complete _____
Sept. 20-23 Students decide on topic and exhibit type. Daily Grade _____
Students may not change their topic after this point.
Oct. 11- Dec. 17 7th grade students will have a minimum of 4 class days and 8th grade students will have
3 class days devoted to History Fair.
Oct. 11-15 Students submit preliminary research and rough draft of a proposal with a Thesis
Statement. Teachers return edited proposal and Thesis Statement.

Continue Library Research
November Students will be working heavily on Science Fair. Social studies teachers will be
mindful of those obligations.
Dec. 1-17 Students should be ending research and will turn in a copy of both Primary and
Secondary Sources, minimum of 5 each for a total of 10 sources, with a rough draft of the
process paper. (Primary sources are a critical element to the project). Sources will be
organized in an annotated bibliography format. ELA teachers will instructionally support
annotated bibliography, thesis statement and primary/secondary sources.

Jan. 18-26 Campus History Fairs exact date to be determined by the campus. Parents and faculty
should be encouraged to attend. The campus is responsible for securing judges.

This is an outline for completion of the history fair project in Pre-AP Social Studies. Your student and your family
have committed to a very rewarding experience. The above timeline is a tool for both you and your student to ensure
major sections completed in an orderly fashion. Please encourage students not to wait until the last minute to prepare
their projects. There will be some in class time designated to the development of certain aspects of the project.
However, students will need to commit time at home in order to produce a quality project. Students may receive
assistance from adults. Based on the schedule the project will account for 4 daily grades and two major grades. Failure
