Norm Rogers, a longtime Shoreline Community College student, died Sunday, May
23, 2010. A member of student government and numerous committees, Rogers and
his motorized wheelchair were fixtures on the Shoreline campus since 1994.
According to friends, Rogers, 72, had gone out to dinner Sunday and was late
returning home. The friends went out looking for him and found Rogers in the First
Avenue NW area near Richmond Beach. King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman John
Urquhart said Rogers was found in his overturned chair after he apparently had tried
to turn around. Urquhart said deputies found no signs of foul play and the King
County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death as an accident.
“Norm was an inspiration,” said SCC President Lee Lambert. “I appreciated his
wisdom and wit. In tough meetings when things got tense, you could count on Norm
breaking the ice and getting things back on track.”
