IMPORTANT ADVICE NOTE

TO CONTRACTORS / BUILDERS

REVISED ARRANGEMENTS FOR BUILDING CONTROL INSPECTIONS

In order to ensure that East Staffordshire Borough Council continues to provide our valued

customers with the best possible service we have introduced revised arrangements for Building

Control Inspections.

Commencement of site works

In future on commencement of a project you will be issued with a Site Inspection Log. The Building

Control Surveyor responsible for your project will agree with you the stages of work that require

inspection –(taking into account various factors relating to the particular job, such as ground

conditions, complexity of project, likely problem areas, past experience of builder / contractor etc).

The stages of the project that the Building Control Surveyor wishes to see will be identified and

marked on your copy of the inspection log under the column ‘Inspect’.

Requesting inspections

When you request an inspection of work in the normal manner, either by telephone or by

arrangement with the Building Control Surveyor on site you will be given a unique receipt number.

This number is your proof that an inspection has been requested. You are advised to record this

number alongside the relevant stage of work on the Site Log. As each inspection is carried out the

Building Control Surveyor will initial both your copy and his own when he is satisfied that work is

in compliance with the regulations. In cases where you cannot be available on site during the

inspection special arrangements will be made.

Upon completion of the work a Completion Certificate will be issued if all identified inspections

have been recorded as satisfactory.

Remember if you request an inspection and for any reason the Building Control Surveyor does not

visit the site your unique receipt number is your proof of inspection request.

Use of the Site Inspection Log will enable you to assure your client (subject to satisfactory results of

inspections) that the Building Control Surveyor has examined all the important stages of your work

and has found them to be satisfactory. This will ensure that at completion stage a Completion

Certificate is issued.
