Yizkor
May God remember the valiant men and women who braved
mortal danger in the days of struggle prior to the establishment of
the State of Israel and the soldiers who fell in the wars of Israel.
May the people of Israel cherish them in their memory; let them
mourn the splendor of youth, the altruism of valor, the dedication
of will and the dignity of self-sacrifice which came to an end on the
battlefield.
May the loyal and courageous heroes of freedom and victory be
sealed forever within the hearts of all Israel, in this generation and
forever more.
Song: ""מליון כוכבים

The Silver Platter by

In work garb and heavy-shod
"A State is not handed to a people on
a silver platter" - They climb,
Chaim Weizmann, first president of In stillness.
Israel. Wearing yet the dress of battle, the grime,
Of aching day and fire-filled night
The Earth grows still.
The lurid sky slowly pales, Unwashed, weary unto death, not knowing rest,
Over smoking borders.
But wearing youth like dewdrops in their hair.
Heartsick, but still living, a people
-- Silently the two approach
stand by to greet the uniqueness
of the miracle. And stand.
Are they of the quick or of the dead?
Readied, they wait beneath the
moon, Through wondering tears, the people stare.
Wrapped in awesome joy, before the "Who are you, the silent two?"
light. And they reply: "We are the silver platter
Then, soon, Upon which the Jewish State was served to you."
A girl and boy step forward,
And speaking, fall in shadow at the nation's feet.
And slowly walk before the waiting
Let the rest in Israel's chronicles be told.

And my Brother Said Nothing
Amir Gilboa
My brother came back from the field
dressed in gray. And I was afraid that
my dream might prove false, so at once
I began to count his wounds.
And my brother said nothing
Then I rummaged in the pockets of the trench-coat
and found a field-dressing, stained and dry.
And on a frayed postcard, her name -
beneath a picture of poppies.
And my brother said nothing.
Then I undid the pack
and took out his belongings, memory by memory.
Hurrah, my brother, my brother, the hero,
now I've found your decorations!
Hurrah, my brother, my brother, the hero,
I shall proudly hymn your name!
And my brother said nothing.
And my brother said nothing.
And his blood was crying out from the ground.

Ro'i Talרועי טל
13.7.1981 – 5.4.2002
Ro'i Tal was 21 years old and from Ma'a'lot Tarshicha. Born in Nahariya, he was
the younger brother of Yuval and Chagai, and attended elementary and high
school in Nahariya.
Ro'i was friendly and liked by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He formed
deep friendships, had an extensive social circle with dozens of friends, and went
on many hikes with the Society for the Protection of Nature. He knew how to
attract attention to himself, but also knew how to take care of his siblings, parents
and his whole family.
In November 1999 Ro'i enlisted in the IDF, into a combat unit. He was quickly
noticed as an excellent soldier. His friends in the army told of his motivation,
professionalism, and contagious combative spirit. He believed that the essence of
military leadership is best exemplified under fire. A book found in his room noted:
“the words 'follow me' are a central challenge to a leader and his leadership”.
On April 5, 2002, Ro'i was killed in a battle in Jenin during Operation 'Homot
Magen'. He was seriously wounded while attempting to reach a wounded soldier,
under fire. He later died from his wounds. He received an award for courage
posthumously for the“realization of the values of courage, friendship, loyalty and
dedication to the saving of human life”. Ro'i was survived by his parents and two
