							Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Graff Sapphire media player, please take a few moments to read this manual before
operation.

Box Contents
1)   GEM Sapphire
2)   AC Adapter
3)   This user guide
4)   Remote controller
5)   Connector pack including 2 x Sony Ericsson connectors, Line in cable, mini-jack adapter.


Location of parts
There are grill-covered speakers on the front panel of the Sapphire. With the Speakers facing you:

Working with the front top right hand corner as a reference point.
The SD card slot is just to the left of the reference point on the top of the Sapphire.
The memory stick slot is just below the reference point on the right hand side of the Sapphire.
The Line In Connector is directly below the memory stick slot.
The DC 5 Volt connector is directly below the Line In Connector.

The controls for the Sapphire are on a raised rectangular panel on the top of the Sapphire.
The volume control is located to the right of the rectangular panel.
The on/off switch is located to the left of the rectangular panel and is the most raised of the controls.
The Track Back, Play/Pause and the Track Forward buttons are arranged in a line directly behind the on/off switch.

Charging the Battery
To charge the battery:
Connect the AC adapter cable to the DC 5V connector and plug the adapter into a suitable power socket.

The red power indicator on the adaptor will illuminate showing that power is applied to the adaptor.
The green charge indicator will illuminate while the battery is charging.

Alternatively the Sapphire can be charged and powered via the USB port of a computer.

The battery takes 2 to 3 hours to charge.
The green charge indicator extinguishing indicates completion of charging.

Memory Stick Insertion
Align the memory stick with the USB connector and insert. If the memory stick does not insert easily, rotate it 180 degrees
and try again. To avoid damage to the connector, never insert the memory stick at an angle. Playback will begin if the
memory stick is inserted correctly.

SD Card Insertion
Position the card with the cut-off corner at the bottom right hand side.
Align the SD card with the SD card slot.
Gently push the card vertically downwards into the slot until it reaches the bottom do not use force.
Playback will begin if the card is inserted correctly.

Random and Track Repeat Function
 Random playback and track repeat can be selected by pressing and holding the play/pause button for approximately 5
seconds.

 By pressing and holding the play/pause button for approx. 5 seconds, Standard playback moves to random playback,
random playback moves to track repeat and track repeat returns to standard playback.

When applying power, the Sapphire always starts up in standard playback mode.
Audio Stored in Folders
 During standard playback the Sapphire will play all of the tracks in one folder before progressing to the next. During
random play all tracks regardless of folder will be included in the random sequence.

Operating the Sapphire as a Speaker
The Sapphire can be used as a speaker for portable devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players. The short mini-
jack to mini-jack connects between the line input on the Sapphire and the headphone socket on the mobile device.
Adapters are supplied for Sony Ericsson phones and MP3 players with a miniature headphone socket.

Applying Power
The Sapphire can operate standalone using the built-in, re-chargeable battery or on AC power using the AC adapter.

To operate the unit on AC power; Plug the AC adaptor into a suitable power socket and insert the small power connector
into the DC5V socket on the right hand side of the unit.
Do not operate the Sapphire on mains power if the battery is completely flat.
Allow 15 minutes of charging before operating the unit.

When operating on battery, ensure that the battery is charged before use (see page 2).

Slide the on/off switch to the right to turn on, the power indicator on the volume control will illuminate.
Do not fast-cycle the power, always allow 5 seconds between turning the Sapphire off and turning on again.

Operation (MP3 Playback)
Once power is applied to the unit, insert a memory stick or SD card containing mp3 files into the appropriate slot. USB
stick into the USB connector or SD card into the SD card slot.
Note: For large capacity media 2GB and above, insert the media with the power off and then turn on the power.

The Sapphire player will automatically play the mp3 files as soon as the SD card/USB stick is inserted (or for larger
devices, when the power is turned on). Playback will always start from track 1.

If a second device is inserted during playback, the Sapphire will play the newly inserted device. The Sapphire will only
play the device inserted first when the second device is removed.

Set the volume control to a comfortable listening level.

Navigation

Play/Pause ►/ ‖ Press the play/pause button momentarily to pause playback and to resume playback.
Backwards ◄◄ Press the Track Back button momentarily to play the previous track.
Forwards ►► Press the Track Forwards button momentarily to play the next track.

Volume Control
 The Sapphire player has two methods for adjusting playback volume. The main volume control is adequate for
most situations, however the volume can also be adjusted using the forward and back buttons. The volume is
adjusted by pressing and holding the track back button to decrease volume and the track forward button to
increase the volume.
Remote Control operation
On first use, enable the remote control battery by pulling out the strip of cellophane at the bottom of the remote control.

Button location
There is a rough patch on the back of the remote control at the bottom and an indentation on the top edge for the infra-
red transmitter.
At the bottom of the remote control there are 9 buttons, 1 to 9 for track select arranged in three rows from left to right.
The next row of buttons above are (left to right) zero, 100+ and 200+.
The next row of buttons above are (left to right) volume minus, volume plus and EQ.
The next row of buttons above are (left to right) Track Forward, Track Back and Play/Pause.
The top row of buttons are not used.


Track forward/back

Back     ◄◄         Press the Track Back button momentarily to play the previous track.
Forwards ►►         Press the Track Forwards button momentarily to play the next track.

Play/Pause ►/ ‖       Press the play/pause button momentarily to pause playback and to resume playback.

Volume Increase/Decrease
Press the – button repeatedly to decrease the volume until the desired level is achieved.
Press the + button repeatedly to increase the volume until the desired level is achieved.

Equalisation
There are six pre-set equaliser settings to enhance your listening pleasure. Pressing the EQ button cycles
through the pre-sets.

Track Select Buttons
You can move directly to the track of your choice by keying in the number of the desired track.
Pressing 1 then 2 will select track 12.

                                                       WARRANTY
Your Sapphire model (excluding the battery) is covered by 1 years' parts and labour warranty against electrical and
mechanical defects due to faulty materials or workmanship
This warranty does not apply to any parts that become unserviceable through accident, misuse or neglect, repairs
attempted by unauthorized persons, use on power supplies other than that specified in the user manual and normal wear
and tear.
Any repairs or parts replacement required under the terms of the warranty due to faulty materials or workmanship will be
made free of charge during this period
The warranty does not cover any damage occurring to machines in transit to the factory due to poor or unsuitable
packaging.
Malfunction or damage caused by the use of unsuitable or poor quality media is not covered by this warranty.
The Battery installed in the Sapphire is covered by 6 months warranty against total failure during the warranty period.
This warranty does not affect your statutory rights
