The Chicago Air & Water Show had its beginnings in 1959. It was held at the lakeshore at Chicago Avenue and was called the Lakeshore Park Air & Water Show. Highlights included a Coast Guard Air/Sea Rescue demonstration, a diving competition and a water ski water ballet.
