Re: NTNC Membership
Subject to its approval of final details, tentatively agrees
to participate as a member of the Northern Tier Networking Consortium (NTNC), with
mission and goals consistent with those articulated in the NTNC Mission and Goals
Statement. Continuing to participate in advanced networking initiatives is a high priority
for the institution, for the research and educational opportunities this offers our faculty
and students, as well as the economic opportunities this offers our region and state.
As part of our tentative commitment to participate in the NTNC, we acknowledge the
following points.
1. NTNC is organized as an officially sanctioned Project of Internet2, and as such
Internet2 provides various organizational and fiscal management services. At any
point some members of NTNC may elect to form a different type of organization
to address specific networking needs, but we are under no obligation to participate
in any such separate venture. That is, the major focus of the NTNC is to provide
an “umbrella” that brings together entities throughout the northern tier to discuss
and collaborate on issues related to advanced networking, but the creation of
specific network infrastructure, submission and/or management of grant
proposals, execution of contracts, and other such tangible activities will be based
on separate agreements by the participating parties.
2. We commit to pay an initial membership fee of $1000, and then beginning in the
next calendar year commit to pay normal annual membership dues (currently
$1200 per year). As noted above, Internet2 provides fiscal management for the
NTNC, and thus is responsible for collecting dues and managing NTNC assets.
3. We understand that as an NTNC member we will have one official representative
(with one vote) on the NTNC Steering Committee, and will be eligible for
election as our state’s representative on the NTNC Executive Committee when
the representative is next elected (typically done annually, in the spring, by caucus
of the NTNC members within each state).
Again, we are pleased to participate in this effort and looking forward to on-going
participation with the NTNC.
