Course Structure:
Lecture: Saturdays 9 AM – 11:50AM (Science & Tech Room 213)
No class on November 27th (Thanksgiving)
Labs: Saturdays 12noon – 3PM (Science & Tech 417)
PLEASE BE ON TIME FOR EVERY LECTURE & LAB.
Chapters covered in CH120: 1- 13
Home-work Please work and come prepared for every class. Assignments will include
reading of the text (and handouts); and problems (textbook problems and worksheets)
associated with the topic.
Some Homework assignments may be collected.
LECTURE EVALUATION: All lecture exams are closed textbook and closed
notebook.
On tests/exam all steps of your reasoning and all calculations must be shown to earn
complete credit. BRING YOUR CALCULATOR TO TESTS. Calculators cannot be
borrowed from another student during quizzes, tests and exam.
NO MAKEUP OF MISSED EXAMS/TESTS/LABS.
LECTURE EXAMS: There will be a total of 6 lecture exams, 100 points each.
Following are the dates on which the lecture tests will be given during the regular lecture
hour :
EXAM 1: September 18th
EXAM 2: October 2nd
EXAM 3: October 16th
EXAM 4: October 30th
EXAM 5: November 13th
EXAM 6: December 11th
All exams will be comprehensive and may include anything in CH120 discussed
in lecture up to and including the last lecture before the exam. They will, however,
concentrate on material presented since the last exam. Full understanding of the lecture
material will necessitate reading the required chapters in the text, handouts and working
the required problems.
LAB SCHEDULE: Labs start on September 11th and end on November 20th
Find the laboratory information in the booklet provided.
Bring the following along with the booklet for each lab:
- Safety goggles
- Bound lab notebook
- Follow dress code (NO shorts/sandals; long hair must be tied; no eating/drinking
in the lab)
LAB GRADING: We will have a total of 11 labs, each worth 15 points (Total from labs
is 165 points)
Missed labs: NO MAKE-UP of missed labs. If you miss a lab, it will be counted as
zero points for that lab.
GRADING: The total grade for the course will be calculated as follows:
600 points for the six exams (100 points / exam)
165 points for the lab
Course grades: Following cut-off is strictly followed.
A 93% and above
A- 90% and above
B+ 87% and above
B 83% and above
B- 80% and above
C+ 77% and above
C 73% and above
