DAWSON STREET
CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
1
Dawson Street Christian School Greater Bethlehem Temple
was established July 1, 1983, by Bishop and Sis. Albert C.
Jackson, Jr..
There was a very strong desire felt by Christian parents to
place their children in a disciplined Christian environment.
By the help of God, we will be successful with this new
school in our community.
Once again, a heart felt thanks to all of you who support our
efforts.

A Word from the Principal
The central responsibility of a school is to provide a positive and
highly disciplined learning environment which promotes the
growth and development of the whole person. Dawson Street
fulfills this responsibility by providing students a challenging
and significant educational journey in an academic surrounding
of superior quality.
Excellence in academic study as a religious endeavor is given top
priority at Dawson Street. This excellence results from such
emphasis as small classes, low student to teacher ratios, dynamic
teachers, and broad base curriculum offerings.
Students also participate in the decision-making processes of the
school in the spirit of a true democracy and as an essential part of
their educational growth.
Standards at Dawson Street Christian School are high yet they
make provisions for individual initiative, responsible academic
freedom, and personal creativity. I challenge you to obtain all of
the knowledge you can during this school year and may God truly
bless you.
The Principal

OUR PHILOSOPHY:
At Dawson Street Christian School, students will learn that there is an
almighty God, and that they and their surroundings were created for and by
him. Our curriculum is designed as to assist the child in coming to
understand reverence for the creator, his fellowmen and himself.
We recognize that the Holy Bible contains the authoritative, infallible, and
inspired Word of God. It is without error in its origin and we stand without
apology for prayer and Bible teaching in our school.
A Christian School is an extension on the Christian home in training young
people in a Christian environment for time and eternity. The school staff
works closely with the parents in training the whole child.
Attendance at this school is a privilege and not a right. The goal of this
school is not to reform, but to train Christian youth of ever ability in the
highest principles of Christian leadership, self-discipline, individual
responsibility, personal integrity, and good citizenship. This school stands
without apology for the gospel and highest standards of morality and
Christian behavior.
The staff has made a commitment to generate the extended family concept
as they pray and worship together as a family and a school. We realize the
Word of God is the foundation for all true learning in the academic area as
well as a pattern for establishing Christian character, self-discipline, and the
development of moral character.
The primary responsibility of the Christian School is spreading the good
news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and assisting in developing
Christian attitudes and Christian social values. Our secondary responsibility
is to provide an excellent educational atmosphere in which the student will
develop spiritually, emotionally, physically, socially, and academically.
7
Philosophy Continued:
The student will develop and acquire a mature sense of Christian
responsibility, self-esteem, self-respect, respect for others, and secure
knowledge and skills necessary to enable his/her to take his place as a
productive member of his/her church, community, and society.
Dawson Street provides individualized mastery learning in the following
areas: Religion, English, Spelling, Etymology, Reading, Math, Science,
Social Studies, P.E., Art, French, Latin, Spanish, and Computers.
At Dawson Street, we use the A.C.E. and A-Beka Curriculum. This
curriculum is designed to allow each student to work on his/her own level of
achievement, which may vary from subject to subject. Please remember the
Christian School, the Staff, and our children in prayer asking God’s
blessings and His help in our efforts to train the child in the way he should
go.
Yours in Christ,
The Educational Committee
CURRICULUM:
At Dawson Street, we use the A.C.E. and A-Beka Curriculum. The A.C.E.
Curriculum is designed to allow each student to work on his/her own level of
achievement, which may vary from subject to subject.
Normally, a student will complete about twelve paces in each subject each
academic year. However, this will vary according to the student’s ability.
There are Five Basic Laws of Learning, and when these laws are
incorporated on a day to day process, results will be seen.
The Five Laws of Learning are related to basic Scripture principles:
LEVEL - All students are different: *To whom much is given much is
required*
GOALS - Reflect good judgment: *Sitting down to count the cost*
CONTROLLED - Acknowledge the necessity for discipline, guidance, and
8
responsible leadership: * Train up a child in the way he should go*
MOTIVATION - Is that inner desire prompted by the spirit filled
supervisor: *Reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press
toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ*
MEASURABLE - Results and Rewards relate to accountability: *We shall
all stand before the judgment seat of Christ to receive*
DIPLOMAS:
At Dawson Street, we offer several kinds of Diplomas. We offer College
Preparatory, General and Vocational Diplomas.
WITHDRAWAL:

Dawson Street Christian School recognizes that it cannot meet the
educational needs of all children. We are a school that offers a high quality
of Christian training, but it is not designed to be a Correctional institution for
problems arising beyond those usually encountered in average school
children. While we love delinquent and emotionally unstable children, the
school is not equipped to meet their needs. Some children do not adjust to a
disciplined academic environment and find excuses to criticize the policies
and decision of the staff and administration. In such cases, the school
reserves the right to have full discretion in the discipline, corporal
punishment (with parent approval). Corrective probationary period,
exclusion and expulsion.
We realize that from time to time children take issues with action that they
do not agree with and are prone to criticize statements out of context. This
being normal for children, that if it should occur please support the school,
correct the child, and call the school for full details concerning the incident.
All learning environments demand discipline. Dawson Street intends to
work within a Christian framework of discipline may be administered by
chastisement in the form of work details, removal of privileges (including
dismissal of class) or paddling (with parent approval).
